Popular combat sports media, Fight Haven shared a rather intriguing video of a boxing gym this morning on Twitter. The video was very disturbing as the trainee boxers were sparring lightly under the direction of the coach. Suddenly, one of them became ruthless and began striking his opponent in the back of the head, commonly known as the ‘rabbit punch’.
The incident was further shared by boxing promoter, Lou DiBella who retweeted the video and asked to shut down this boxing gym. As soon as the video went viral, fans disregarded it. But how could such a vicious attack happen during a light sparring session with the coach present?
Mustafa’s #Boxing gym, wherever it is, should be shut down immediately. This is a punk-ass, dangerous disgrace. This is an abomination. https://t.co/ZbKaR5K74G

Fight Haven shared the post on Twitter with the caption, “When Light Sparring Goes Terribly Wrong…”. From the video, it is seen that it is not light sparring, but it must be heavy sparring. Lou DiBella retweeted the video with a caption, “Mustafa’s #Boxing gym, wherever it is, should be shut down immediately. This is a punk-a*s, dangerous disgrace. This is an abomination.” His tweet illustrates just how angry he is at such an act of brutality. It is not something expected from ‘light’ sparring.

What is light sparring?
Boxers refer to light sparring as controlled sparring that takes place under the supervision of coaches. In this thing, boxers try to replicate moves and punches, but there is no force involved. When it is involved, it is very limited. It is also known as touching or controlled sparring. Also, technical sparring and conditioned sparring are there.
According to boxing rules, the boxer also used some illegal techniques. Rabbit punches or punching someone’s neck or back is prohibited, as it can cause serious injury. But the boxer used it and the coach did not stop him.
