Martin Bakole’s unusual in-ring encounter – no, it wasn’t Carlos Takam
The younger brother of cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu told iFL TV, “It stung me in the ring, then I was surprised it was in my mouth…it started from [my ear] [and] went to my eyes. Then I was surprised when I opened my mouth, and it went in.”
Martin Bakole has revealed that he swallowed a wasp, which stung the inside of his mouth, during his fight vs Carlos Takam on Saturday night, but he won by fourth-round knockout regardless: “I can’t believe it, I was surprised, I was vomiting in my changing room.” [@IFLTV]

According to the following fan, no one would have ever bought his “so [you] swallowed a wasp” argument if he had lost the battle against Carlos Takam and then gone around discussing the incident.
"So u swallowed a wasp"
nobody would believe him if he had lost the fight and gave this excuse after😂😂— Sandwich (@SandwichBurger1) October 31, 2023
Seemingly taking a dig, this fan wondered if the wasp didn’t want to miss the real-life action. It must have heard all the glorious tales of Martin Bakole knocking down one opponent after another, hence the curiosity.
That wasp heard about all the legendary stories of Bakole bashing up everyone and there dog in sparring and wanted a piece of the action.

Pulling in Deontay Wilder, this user mentioned how Bakole’s comments appeared to have been taken from the former heavyweight champion’s playbook. The only difference is that while Wilder lost his bout while making excuses, Bakole, on the other hand, succeeded.
Straight out the Deontay Wilder excuse book that one 😂. At least he won 👍🏼

This fan sounded wonder-struck about why the animal kingdom must also partake in the boxing business, where you already come across someone whose only aim is to knock you down!
It’s not bad enough that someone is trying to take your head off … the animal kingdom has to get involved too?!

Outside the wasp story, the Kananga, DRC-born boxer called out Deontay Wilder as well. He said, “…he’s number one, and I’m number two. Why not have the fight? If he’s not ready, they should take him out…”

Marching on with an impressive record
The bout with Carlos Takam barely lasted four rounds. Despite his constant movements, the Cameroonian-French boxer barely managed any response to Bakole’s heavy hits. Soon, having had enough, the referee intervened, waiving off his hands. With the victory, Martin Bakole’s record stands at 20 wins and one loss. Last year, he grabbed significant headlines after he defeated 2016 Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka in Paris, France. Additionally, Bakole participated in a few sparring sessions with Tyson Fury before the Ngannou clash.
