Mexican boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez is set to make his much-anticipated return to the ring after a year-long layoff due to a hand injury. The Undisputed super-middleweight world champion will be facing off against British fighter John Ryder at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico, on May 6th, 2023. However, many fans and analysts have questioned Ryder’s credentials as a worthy opponent for the returning champion.

Alvarez last fought in September last year against his longtime rival Gennady Golovkin in a comfortable UD victory. Despite this, he is still looking for a rematch with light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol who beat the Mexican last year. On the other hand, Ryder may not be a well-known name in the boxing world. However, he earned a title shot against Alvarez by defeating some of the top names in the industry. Despite this, many argue that Ryder’s record does not make him a credible threat to Alvarez’s reign.
