The aftermath of Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez is proving more dramatic than the fight itself. Just a day after the bout, Ramirez’s renowned trainer, Robert Garcia, fired back at Bill Haney, Devin Haney’s father, for allegedly misrepresenting what transpired after the final bell. If you are wondering what happened, buckle up because this one gets spicy!
On Friday night in Times Square, Devin Haney and Jose Ramirez delivered a bout that felt more like a track meet than a boxing match. Making his return after a year-long layoff, Haney spent much of the night evading exchanges, turning the contest into a snoozefest for viewers. According to CompuBox, it ranked as the fourth-least active 12-round fight in recorded history.
Haney faced significant backlash from experts and fans alike, who took their criticism online. However, in true Bill Haney fashion, he took to X to defend his son from the critics. He specifically called out renowned boxing journalist Dan Rafael, sharing a screenshot from a video that showed Ramirez sitting in an ambulance after the fight.

“Dan Rafael and Tim Bradley, etc., said the fight was boring,” Bill Haney captioned the post. “But after 12 rounds with Devin Haney, Jose Ramirez ended up in the back of an ambulance while Devin sat ringside, laughing and ready for the next challenge.” Haney tried to portray that Ramirez was severely hurt because of the fight, despite what people are saying about the fight.

Fast forward to Saturday, Fight Hub TV caught up with Robert Garcia, where he was pressed about his thoughts on Bill Haney’s comments about Ramirez ending up in the back of an ambulance. Garcia wasn’t having any of it and quickly exposed Bill Haney’s alleged lies about what actually happened after the fight.
Robert Garcia reveals why Jose Ramirez was in the ambulance after the Devin Haney fight
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Garcia explained that the Haney team has always treated him with respect whenever they have crossed paths. “But for Bill to post a picture of Jose in the ambulance after the fight and say something like they hurt him and they had to send him to the hospital, he knows he’s lying to himself,” Garcia told the reporter.

“He knows he’s lying to the world, and that’s what disappoints me because he’s a grown man. He’s not a kid,” Garcia continued. He further explained that there were no locker rooms in Times Square and fighters only had “a small corner” to go to after the fight. “It was in the street. The locker room was in the hotel, two blocks away.”

Garcia claimed that everyone was informed during the pre-fight meeting that “every fighter is going to go back to the street, and then we’re going to have [an] ambulance. And they’re all going to go into the ambulance and be checked by the doctor.” He suggested that every fighter in every boxing event gets checked by a doctor after their fights, regardless of whether they suffered serious injuries.

“Every fighter does that in every single fight. Everybody should know that. Everybody does that. He goes and sees the doctor,” Garcia said. And only when the doctor clears them that the boxers go back to their locker room. “In New York, every fighter went to the back, to the ambulance. The doctors checked them. They release them, we get in the car, and the car drives us to the hotel. That’s exactly what happened,” he concluded.
That said, it appears Bill Haney allegedly tried to lie that Jose Ramirez was seriously hurt. However, Robert Garcia has revealed the reality of the situation. Bill Haney is yet to respond to the allegations. But do you think Haney could be lying?
