And now former Welterweight champion, Shawn Porter, has come out to reveal why Paul chose Rahman Jr. as his replacement for Tommy Fury after he pulled out from the fight citing visa issues.

Shawn Porter reveals why Jake Paul chose Rahman Jr.

In an interview with FightHypeTv, the former Welterweight champion was asked why Paul picked Rahman Jr. “They’re picking a fighter that practically just got knocked out. Even beyond that, he’s in a higher weight and they’re gonna ask him, force him, to pull his weight down.” He told the reporter, pointing out Rahman Jr’s recent loss and adding that Paul’s team would force the heavyweight boxer to cut his weight.

Moreover, he also praised Paul’s business sense and stated he was “business savvy”. “I don’t know how Jake Paul, as young as he is. He’s very business savvy and very business savvy in the sport of boxing. They’ll massage it. Jake Paul will massage it. They’ll cancel the fight and then make it all Hasim’s fault, and they won’t take the rap for anything,” he said.

Lastly, he stated that Paul had all his bases covered, including the controversial rehydration clause that would prevent the heavyweight boxer from fully rehydrating. “He really has a way of doing this so that he’s covered all of the bases. You take a look at the rehydration clause. He’s covering all of his bases,” he concluded.

It seems Porter knows what Paul is trying to achieve using these tactics. Moreover, given that the former Welterweight champion has been in and around the sport for a long time, this take could very well be true.
