Is Teofimo Lopez dodging Gervonta Davis, or are his demands justified? What's your take?

Teofimo Lopez is desperate for a fight with some of the biggest names in boxing. The latest in his line of fire is Gervonta Davis. “Hey, Tank, give me a fight, brother. He ain’t fighting, I ain’t fighting. What’s up? I don’t like people saying I’m ducking somebody. Why do I beat him? Because I’m the takeover, that’s why,” Lopez told the media gathered at the weigh-in of the recently concluded Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga headliner event. The 27-year-old last fought against Steve Claggett in June this year, winning the bout via a majority decision.

However, the fight seems unlikely at this point because Davis doesn’t seem to have any intention of moving up to the super lightweight division where Teofimo Lopez is currently the WBO champion. After being snubbed by Vasiliy Lomachenko earlier in the year, rumors are that Davis has set his sights on Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela who beat Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz to become the new WBA light welterweight champion. Reportedly, talks are also going on between Shakur Stevenson and Davis’ team for a unification bout in the lightweight division.  On that note, Davis’ promoter Leonard Ellerbe recently caught up with K.O. Artist Sports to settle to bed any rumors about ‘Tank’ fighting Teofimo Lopez.

When the interviewer asked Ellerbe if he got the fight “done” between Teofimo Lopez and Davis, Ellerbe responded by saying, “Get the f*ck out” of here,” Elaborating on why he didn’t initiate fight negotiations with Teofimo Lopez, Ellerbe stated that the Brooklyn-born boxer was unreliable, and doesn’t have a proper road map regarding who he wants to fight. “At the end of the day but you know he throws out people’s names like he don’t know what he doing,” Ellerbe said bluntly. Additionally, Ellerbe also hinted at the fact that Lopez and his team sometimes quote ridiculous offers for a fight. “They wanted 20 million to fight Haney right? Wasn’t that out there? You know he’s just all over the place,” Davis’ promoter further said.

Furthermore, while Ellerbe praised Teofimo as a fighter, in his mind there was only one winner if the matchup between Gervonta Davis and Teofimo Lopez were to take place.“He’s a good fighter, he can’t f*ck with Tank though,” Leonard Ellerbe confidently declared.

Leonard Ellerbe’s remarks are not quite off the mark. Safe to say, Lopez is not even sure about which weight class he is going to fight. The boxing promoter’s words hold more significance once you get to know that Teofimo has called out another high-profile fighter who isn’t quite keen on fighting him.

Teofimo Lopez is willing to go up to 154!

Teofimo Lopez is aiming high—really high. The former undisputed lightweight champ is ready to leap two weight classes to face the undefeated ‘Bud’ Crawford at 154 pounds. But here’s the catch: Crawford has bigger fish to fry. The 36-year-old Nebraska native has his sights set on none other than the ‘face of boxing’ himself, Canelo Alvarez, at 168 pounds. For Crawford, this would be the ultimate send-off, a career-defining payday, and the perfect way to add one last glittering name to his already legendary résumé before he hangs up the gloves for good.

Yet, Teofimo Lopez isn’t giving up on his dream fight with Crawford. “I’ll move up to 154, no problem. It’s been done before. Why not Teo? I’ll take Crawford because he’s on his way out,” Lopez boldly declared. His confidence doesn’t stop there. Lopez hinted that Crawford, now 37, may be past his prime, calling him a washed-up fighter and pointing to his performance against Israil Madrimov. “I thought age would catch up to him at 38, but it happened at 36,” Lopez quipped, taking a clear dig at the two-time undisputed champ.

But despite all the bravado, Lopez’s future is uncertain. With no concrete fight offers on the table, and slim chances of securing a bout with either Crawford or lightweight knockout artist Gervonta Davis, Lopez is stuck in limbo. His ambition may be sky-high, but the reality is far more complicated.
