Who are the unsung heroes of a boxing event? Well, it’s the commentators and interviewers who keep the event entertaining and engaging through their witty banter and expert analysis. So, the organizers must handpick only the best in the craft to ensure their event is a hit. In a similar turn of events, the commentary team for the upcoming Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia fight saw a shake-up.

The all-Mexican bout, scheduled for May 4 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, will see Canelo enter the ring for the first time in 2024. And as with any of Canelo’s fights, the event is predicted to be a big one. Regardless, with a mere three days left in the clash, boxing journalist Dan Rafael took to social media, revealing the last-minute change to the commentary team.

A few hours ago, Rafael revealed on X, “Per sources, one change to the commentary team for Saturday’s #CaneloMunguia PPV: Jim Gray will be back as the ringside reporter and interviewer.” The Hall of Fame and Emmy award-winning sportscaster has worked with the likes of Showtime, Fox, SiriusXM, and ESPN, amassing a wealth of experience in the field.

So, he will take center stage after fights to bring forth the emotions boxers often go through after a fight, making sure viewers aren’t just watching the event, but immersing themselves in its raw intensity. Gray’s involvement is exciting and all, but someone else seems to have gotten caught in the crossfire when fans discovered the tweet.

Fans shame Jordan Plant for a past mistake

Why did Jordan Plant face criticism? Well, the thing is, during the Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora event recently, Plant interviewed Rolly Romero after his loss to Isaac Cruz, and people saw Plant’s questions as insensitive. And since Jordan often takes over this role, fans dragged her in. One user highlighted the same point sarcastically, suggesting she should have seen it coming. Yet, it’s worth mentioning that Plant hosted the undercard media workout for the upcoming fight on 25 April.

Someone else snubbed both Plant and Gray to advocate for Jim Lampley. Notably, Lampley was involved in Canelo’s last fight against Jermell Charlo last year, but that might not be the case this year.

Meanwhile, this user seemed happy about the last-minute change, as the user claimed it made the event even better.

The next user speculated that the organizers might have fired Jordan Plant, but the truth behind the situation is currently unknown.

Another user praised the decision by the organizers while highlighting Gray’s success in the industry.

It’s hard to say whether it was Jordan Plant who was replaced by Jim Gray, but as per the responses on Rafael’s tweet, fans aren’t opposed to it. However, come fight night, the reality of the situation will come to light. Do you think Jordan Plant deserves to be booted? Or was it just a mistake?
