Jermell Charlo made history by moving up two weight classes to face the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez. Their fight was the first undisputed vs undisputed clash in boxing history at super middleweight. However, Charlo lost the right to call himself the undisputed champion after the fight. According to the terms of WBO, if he entered the ring against Alvarez in Las Vegas, he’d be stripped of his WBO light-middleweight title. And that is exactly what happened. The title was automatically handed over to his rival, Tim Tszyu.

Tszyu is an Australian boxer, who was supposed to fight Charlo. However, ‘Iron Man’ decided to take the fight against the Mexican boxer. So, after he lost to Alvarez by a unanimous decision, he lost his undisputed crown and even called Tszyu just a “paper” champion. On the other hand, Tszyu believes that he can handle the unified light-middleweight champion easily.

Tim Tszyu recently defended his title against Brian Mendoza. With all the judges scoring in favor of ‘The Soul Taker’, Tszyu proved his might in the division. Therefore, the fans expect Tszyu to go against Jermell Charlo next, for the undisputed fight even though Charlo wishes to fight against Terence Crawford, as he called him out after his last defeat.

After the Sydney-born fighter was able to put down Mendoza, he was asked about his future prospects. He talked about how his holding a WBO title definitely gives his opponents an incentive to take a fight, otherwise, most fighters were afraid of him before. He said, “Yeah exactly, but having this gives you a bit of bargaining power. So when you have this, they can come and get it. Otherwise, if I didn’t have this, it’s risk. That’s what the position I was at before the Harrison fight, you know.

So, it’s quite apparent that Tszyu is hungry to get the fight against the former undisputed champion of the division. So much so that he also provoked Charlo by calling him “delusional” in his recent post-fight interview.
