Natasha Jonas’ surprising shift to the lightweight division and her challenge to Katie Taylor for the unified lightweight straps has been an alluring move for the entire women’s boxing circuit.

The title clash on May 1st will bring two amateur rivals against each other on a professional level, making for an intriguing in-ring collision.

Meanwhile, amateur boxer Sandy Ryan has hailed both fighters for accepting the fight. 27-year-old Ryan is looking forward to her own professional debut and seems ready to be another addition to the stellar female roster.

That said, she recently connected with iFL TV to talk about her boxing career, and she shed her opinion on the Jonas vs Taylor matchup.

Sandy Ryan said, “These are the kind of fights that women’s boxing needs and it’s just perfect because they are two both great boxers, great female boxers and it’s just gonna showcase female boxing at the highest level.”

She added, “These are the fights that women’s boxing needs, and it’s gonna show the talent of the female boxers. It’s gonna be a great fight.”

While Ryan had respect for both the fighters, she does have her favorite in the matchup. Despite giving a chance to Natasha Jonas in pulling off an upset, Ryan touted Katie Taylor to win a hard-fought battle.

“I do give her (Natasha Jonas) a chance, it’s not gonna be easy for Katie. But I do see Katie winning,” said Ryan.

Following a victory over Jonas in the amateur circuit, Taylor boasted of a perfect record of 17-0 in her pro career and is arguably the greatest female fighter in the sport. Meanwhile, Jonas has also been commendable, with a record of 9 wins, 1 win, 1 draw.

Nevertheless, Jonas is yet to attain a world title under her name and she has the chance to become the new unified lightweight champion by being the first woman to beat Katie Taylor. Although she might be the underdog on papers, Jonas can rightfully land an upset.
