Mauricio Sulaiman makes a bold claim about injuries in female fighters
The president then revealed that women are 85 per cent more likely to suffer from concussions than men due to their physiology. He also detailed what factors play a major role in causing injuries to fighters.
“Women physiologically are different than men. So there’s 85 per cent more concussions in women than men and this is researched on soccer, football and baseball, basketball and this is medical data. It is also reported that fatigue and dehydration are major factors for sustaining an injury,” he said.

While Sulaiman has some truth behind his claims, he might have over-exaggerated its extent a little. However, this doesn’t mean that some rules need to differ in the male and female versions of the sport. This is why he further detailed what the WBC did with his findings.
Sulaiman reveals the different rules for female fighters
Later in the interview, Sulaiman detailed how the WBC will implement different rule sets for female fighters. He stated that female fighters will have 10 rounds of 2 minutes each. Moreover, he added that this was done to make sure that the fighters don’t sustain any injuries.
“With all this information, we just simply rectify that female boxing will never be more than 10 rounds in the WBC and will never be for 3 minutes. It will be for two minutes only to avoid dehydration and fatigue which are higher risks for female fighters,” he said.
