Following the unprecedented collapse of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk, former two-time unified Heavyweight champion of the world Anthony Joshua declared his willingness to square off against ‘The Gypsy King’. Joshua, who believes rankings are important, wants to fight the big names, one of them being Tyson Fury. Ahead of his upcoming fight against Jermaine Franklin on the 1st of April, Joshua announced “the only competition” he needed against Fury was in the ring.

Fury, who might be looking forward to closing up shop in Teddy Atlas’s words, is in Anthony Joshua’s opinion the people’s champion. In the sense of the phrase ‘the people’s champion’, provided what Joshua has already done with marketing and PR, he feels there is no competition between him and ‘The Gypsy King’. However, ‘AJ’ revealed the crucial need to face Tyson Fury in the ring in order to remain talk-worthy in Heavyweight boxing.

However, Joshua thinks the competition remains in the ring. “The only competition I need to have with him is in the ring”, thus he said. Although he lacks certainty, Joshua hopes to face Tyson Fury. He even commented on the 70/30 split that Fury offered to Usyk. While Joshua showed concern for what Fury would potentially offer him, he pinned his faith against his management and promotional company. Thus, Joshua ended his interview with the hope that his team will “negotiate fiercely”.
