After Ryan Garcia tested positive for Ostarine, a PED, the boxing world was again concerned about the effectiveness of drug testing and the integrity of the sport. Now that the Paris Olympics is around the corner, the founder of BALCO Laboratories and CEO of SNAC System, Victor Conte, shed light on the current scenario of drug testing, especially concerning the Olympics.

According to Victor Conte, the drug-testing method being used before the 2024 Paris Olympics makes it “very easy for athletes to use PEDs.” As Conte told Insider, “They have in-competition tests and out-of-competition tests. And during the out-of-competition, they don’t even test for about 80 stimulants and narcotics.

This allows athletes to consume those 80 unchecked stimulants when they are training. “They only test for them at the competition. So, right there, there is a loophole you can drive a Mack Truck through,” Conte sarcastically added.

The other substances are not using designer steroids, they’re using endogenous hormones which are testosterone, growth hormone, insulin, EPO,” Victor Conte continued. Conte added that micro-dosing and other critical procedures were being carried out at night so that the collected samples were pretty normal by the morning when the collectors arrived.

Victor Conte on when athletes can stop consuming drugs

After Ryan Garcia was banned by the NYSAC for a year for testing positive for PED against Devin Haney, Victor Conte was also in the news. Ryan Garcia branded Victor Conte as the biggest cheater in sports history, accusing him of deliberately generating an adverse analytical finding from Garcia’s sample with his resources just to get ‘KingRy’ in trouble. However, in his response, Conte claimed Garcia had “serious mental issues.” Additionally, he maintained the stance that he never conspired against Garcia.

Now, speaking to Insider, Conte explained why boxers who tested positive for banned substances would stop consuming PEDs. “The sensitivity of the equipment, they can detect at a lower level. So, the testing is getting better and if the athletes became of the opinion that the testing was effective, they [would] like to compete without using drugs, they really would,” he added with conviction.
