Once an undefeated world champion boxer, Mario Barrios has now lost twice in a row and both times against top-tier opponents. Following his WBA super lightweight title loss to Gervonta Davis last year, he fell prey to Keith Thurman’s tricks in his latest outing. ‘El Azteca’ Barrios could survive all 12-rounds against ‘One Time’. However, he remained on the wrong end of a lopsided beat down.

The fight took place at the 147 lbs division, which wasn’t Barrios’ natural weight category. Although Thurman returned to action after more than two years, he still found ways to poleaxe Mario Barrios. Following the 12-rounds of slug-fest, Barrios was left battered. No wonder Keith Thurman earned a comfortable unanimous victory and desired to battle the current welterweight world champions next.

Boxer Mario Barrios is in a very crucial stage

However, that weight category is currently under the reign of Josh Taylor, who has all major word titles over there. Gervonta Davis holds the WBA regular 140 lbs belt.

While Taylor will now defend his belts against Jack Catterall, there’s no way Barrios is getting a shot at the 140 lbs straps anytime soon. Mario Barrios shall ha e to revive his win-track immediately, as he is still a top-tier name in the super lightweight unit. On bagging a few more wins, he will be liable enough to demand a world championship bout. Thus, the journey is not over for him yet and Barrios can remain optimistic about seeing a prominent surge in his career ahead.
