Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of the legend, Muhammed Ali has expressed grief over the innocent lives being sacrificed in Gaza and Israel. The ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel has escalated into a full-scale war involving Hamas and Israel. Over 1,200 people have tragically lost their lives, with many more sustaining injuries. Following back-to-back bombings and loss of life in the Israel-Hamas conflict, athletes have long maintained a multifaceted relationship with politics.
Their significant platforms offer a chance to spotlight social and political causes. This creates a dynamic connection between sports and societal issues. Recently, following Floyd Mayweather’s stance, Ryan Garcia has also criticized acts of extreme violence. The two used their influence to raise awareness against such actions. Walsh has now added his name to the list of boxers who are taking a stance.

Walsh’s heart went out to his Muslim kin, who were being slaughtered as a result of the fight between Israel and the militant group, Hamas. The residents and citizens have their children snatched away and houses destroyed. “My heart sinks anytime I have to witness my Muslim brothers and sisters and the world hurting in any way. Times like these make me think how much the world misses my grandfather. He wasn’t just the GOAT, he was one of the greatest men”

This reminded him of his late grandfather, Muhammed Ali, a legend in the boxing world. Not only that, Ali was also a philanthropist. While Walsh shares the same sentiment, he does not have the same universal appeal that Ali possessed. Predicting what action he would have taken had been there to witness the atrocities, he said “That love would have brought him to not only condemn the atrocities of all transgressors, it would have put him on a plane to directly appeal to the leaders of all hostile parties to stop the violence. He would’ve spent whatever he could muster on food and medicine for the battered and blockaded masses in Gaza.” Walsh condemned the brutal violence and called for negotiation. It’s not only Walsh who has spoken up on the devastating conflict as other notable boxing personalities have also offered their take on the situation.
