The way a story is told carries a peculiar magic. The artistry of words is woven into a captivating narrative. Imagine if we released the opening scene of a much-anticipated film to you. But not on a movie screen? It was not through a teaser trailer or an exclusive media release but through the spoken words of the film’s lead actor.

The charismatic Jamie Foxx is slated to step into the shoes of the legendary Mike Tyson for an upcoming biopic. He has painted a riveting picture, not with a brush or a pen, but with his voice. A resurfaced video reveals Foxx recounting an opening scene so vivid that it feels as though we are watching it unfold before our eyes.

Foxx begins his narration by setting a vivid scene, “The camera is high but not as high as the heavens. Just above the trees and it’s sneaking through New York.” Our attention is drawn toward the rhythmic echo of focus mitts being hit in the distance.

Drawing us further into the story, Foxx continues, “We get up to this boxing gym, we see the doors and the camera stops.” The anticipation builds as Foxx sets the stage for the imminent entrance of Tyson, “The doors open magically, the camera snakes in and we see in the distance a hulking figure.

Foxx seamlessly takes on Tyson’s voice, recounting the boxer’s instruction to a young boy: “Don’t worry about what your dad said, just throw the right. Make sure you keep your left though, so you don’t get your head knocked off”.

The narrative takes a dramatic twist when Foxx says, “He throws the right and he hits Mike and Mike acts like he’s falling in super slow motion.” Suddenly, the narrative transports us to Tyson’s first professional loss against Buster Douglas. Foxx describes this moment with powerful simplicity: “He’s back at the last fight he got knocked out. He’s on the ground, rests back on the ropes… he sees everybody talking.”

As Tyson’s mouthpiece flies out, the present returns with a jolt. Foxx concludes his narration by bringing us back to the gym. “The ref comes up one two and we flashback to the young Mike Tyson“. In doing so, Foxx promises a movie that will deliver a rich, emotionally gripping portrait of Mike Tyson.
