Did Rolly Romero's loss to Pitbull Cruz really come down to 'God's plan,' or is it just an excuse?

Rolando Romero has been a changed man since his loss to Isaac Cruz in March 2024. It was a brutal fight where Pitbull Cruz dominated Romero forcing the referee to put an end to the assault, 56 seconds into the 8th round. However, for Rolly Romero, the loss provided a learning experience and a stepping stone to the next phase of his career.

Romero’s career has been on a decline after two losses in the last three bouts. Something needs to be changed, and he has to bounce back to get his career back on track. And it looks like his outlook towards life and boxing has changed. He is looking at the future completely differently and is ready to give his all once again to this sport. In a recent interview with FighthubTV, Romero shared his belief that he wasn’t destined to win against ‘Pitbull’ and explained how his entire outlook on boxing has transformed.

While speaking to FighthubTV, Rolando Romero opened up about his title loss against ‘Pitbull’ and how he believes that the ‘man upstairs’ did not want him to win that night. He believes that God had different plans for him and it was destiny for him to lose that bout. “I was not supposed to win that fight. The man upstairs didn’t want me to win. That’s all that matters. And I know I have my ideas of why,” said Romero as he made peace with the loss.

Even after the loss, ‘Rolly’ did not make any excuses, despite the fight’s outcome. He posted a heartfelt post on Instagram after a week of his fight against Cruz. The post showcased his sportsmanship and showcased his journey and dedication to the fight. He congratulated Pitbull for the wonderful fight and stated that he would keep going no matter what.

Rolando Romero: “F*ck boxing sh*t”

The Las Vegas native is ready to make his comeback to the ring on September 14th on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga. It will be a chance for Rolando Romero to bounce back from the slump as he will take on Manuel Jaimes. The 15-2 boxer has previously stated that he is grateful for the opportunity and would like to get back in that win column with his next fight. A win here would be a statement of his return to the title conversation.

But more than the fight, Romero now wants to focus on being a better human as he explained to Villegas. On being asked about his experience and learnings from the Issac Cruz loss, Romero stated that in the greater scheme of things, boxing does not really matter. What eventually matters is how good of a human being you are. “Just be a better man overall. That’s all that matters. F*ck boxing sh*t, just be a better man,” replied Romero in a calm and composed manner.
