Devin Haney is a once-in-a-generation talent. At just 20, he became the youngest to clinch the world title. Just 3 years later, at 23 years and 220 days, he cemented his legacy by becoming the youngest undisputed champion in the four-belt era. The Dream did not stop there, jumping up to super lightweight and snatching the title away in his first bout to earn the two-division champion status.

Aside from a single hiccup against Ryan Garcia, later overturned, Haney has had a spotless career. Much of that success traces back to his father, Bill Haney, who’s coached him from the crib to the ring. And as the 31-0 fighter gears up to make his return against José Ramírez in May, Haney Sr. took to ‘X’ to brag about his son’s greatness. However, this time, the move backfired as the internet replied with a dose of cold, hard truth.

Bill Haney shared a graphic spotlighting various boxers’ names and ages, with Devin Haney, front and center, as the youngest and most decorated of the bunch. Haney Sr. wrote, “Bill Haney: Devin Haney age 26. The youngest to do it. The most accomplished. Belts & Bag = The Dream. #BuiltDifferent #HaneyEra #Undisputed #2Division,” touting his son’s standout resume.

The post included the names of Bruce CarringtonKeyshawn Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, Jaron Ennis, and Jesse Rodriguez. It is a stacked list with every fighter winning multiple titles in multiple divisions. However, without holding back, the father-trainer crowned his son as the best on the list.

But the move backfired. Fans pushed back hard, serving up a swift reality check to counter the proud father’s flex.

A far cry for validation

A fan wrote, “I get being a proud father but dudes literally begging for validation,” suggesting that this comment crossed the line, even by Bill Haney’s standards. Surely, Devin Haney’s feats are undeniable, but shading out other legendary boxers to show his superiority didn’t sit well with this fan.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Devin Haney truly the greatest of his generation, or is his legacy overhyped?

Have an interesting take?

Another fan wrote, “I wouldn’t brag especially after the beating he took!!!” referring to the Ryan Garcia fight. Sure, the loss got scrubbed from the record, but Haney hit the canvas three times that night, a memory that fans won’t let fade just yet. Another fan echoed the same idea, “And got his as* beat a few time along the way we ain’t forgot bout tht loma or Garcia fight.”

Then came an even sassier zinger. A fan wrote, “He still can’t sell tickets or PPV,” referring to Devin Haney’s selling ability despite being a world champion. Despite his titles, The Dream’s only big pay-per-view splash came against Garcia and most chalk that up to “KingRy’s” pull, not his.

Amidst the sea of criticism, there was one supporter backing Bill Haney’s opinion. He wrote, “Dev and Bam Rodriguez the youngest and the littest fighters in boxing nobody doin it like em,” declaring Haney and Jesse Rodriguez as the greatest of this generation. Like the Californian, Bam is also a two-division champion and can unify the super flyweight division soon, if the stars align.

Bill Haney would hope that Devin Haney’s return goes according to that plan. Another slip-up, though, and the internet’s got receipts ready to bury the Haneys all over again. Do you think Devin Haney is the greatest of this generation? If not, then who? Let us know your thoughts down below.
