Is fighting a 58-year-old Tyson a true test for Jake Paul, or just a publicity stunt?

Jake Paul knows how to capture the limelight, be it while promoting a fight or putting his opponents on alert with his antics. He did the same when he stepped inside the boxing ring and showcased to the world why they should take him seriously ahead of the Mike Tyson fight. So, what exactly did he do?

Notably, Paul, 27, and Tyson, 58, will stand across from each other on November 15 in Arlington. While there are doubts about ‘Iron Mike’s fitness, ‘The Problem Child’ has to adjust to the vagaries of the heavyweight division, a weight class where he has never fought before. Therefore, he is trying to fit right in with sparring sessions and see how is feeling at the new weight class. But the YouTuber-turned-boxer didn’t expect to create such a buzz with his latest training video, where he dropped his heavyweight sparring partner.

Paul, at 10-1, turned to his social media handles and shared a clip of him in a sparring session. He put on a headgear and donned boxing gloves and engaged with an opponent much larger than him. In the clip, the fans could witness the Cleveland native’s sparring partner marching toward him and then falling to the canvas after eating a sneaky overhand right.

Jake Paul then looked at the camera and declared, “Don’t charge at me, Tyson.” This comment runs contrary to what Mike Tyson, at 50-6, had admitted at a press conference where he told fans that they could expect a first-round knockout. However, this sequence and sending of a message to the former world champion didn’t sit well with the fans, who took to the comment section and expressed their candid opinion about the same.

Fans play down Paul’s stunt

Have an interesting take?

A fan blasted Paul for his choice of sparring partner. They announced, “Sparring partner look out of shape as f–k 😒.” Paul’s sparring partner looked lethargic and seemed to take a dive instead of countering the overhand right or throwing an uppercut, which raised skepticism among fans.

A user lauded Paul and how he had reshaped the boxing world. They claimed, “Jake Paul is the face of boxing.” Paul had helped make crossover boxing mainstream and continued to record high PPV numbers, such as 450,000 in his fight with Nate Diaz, and hence, has made a claim to the title currently held by Canelo Alvarez.

Someone theorized Paul might be in trouble for his fight with Mike Tyson. They noted, “He’s gonna get cooked so bad man.” Paul has an overreliance on his overhand right to generate results and this might not be the case when he fights Tyson, who is more skilled and has more experience of fighting top contenders.

A comment threw a jibe at Paul for his shenanigans and putting extra emphasis. The comment read, “He’s fighting a 57yr old Mike & behaving like he’s fighting Mike in his prime. Smh.” Tyson’s past concerns of sciatica, his hip surgery, and his recent encounter with a stomach ulcer have worried the fans. Besides, there is a huge age disparity and questions about Tyson’s body holding up in the fight.

Lastly, a fan threw shade on Paul’s resume. They argued, “What is more lame? Trying to KO sparring partners? Or trying to KO senior citizens?” Paul has been called out for his preference for fighting UFC fighters or boxers at the far end of their careers, such as Tyron Woodley, and most recently Mike Perry.
