It’s as if they are ‘cut from the same cloth’. That’s what most of the fans felt when they came across a short video of Canelo Alvarez joining elder brother Ricardo Alvarez at the family-owned taqueria. Last month, the super middleweight champion defended his unified title against Edgar Berlanga on the PBC-Amazon Prime card in Las Vegas.
While his reputation as one of the ‘faces of boxing’ stays intact, the Mexican superstar has been forging his name as an astute businessman. His ‘Canelo Promotions’ already boasts an enviable roster of boxers across Mexico. But outside of boxing, Alvarez, who Forbes reported to have a net worth of roughly $275 million, runs a chain of gas stations and convenience stores. Then who can forget his foray into the tequila business under his VMC banner? A few years ago, the champion and his brother ventured into the hugely lucrative taco business and started a taqueria, ‘El Pastor Del Rica’, in their hometown of Guadalajara. To let the Americans have a taste of the Mexican delicacy, they opened a branch in San Diego, California too.

There in front, wearing a black cap and t-shirt, brother Canelo Alvarez stood. The whole transaction took place in Spanish. However, a rough translation goes like this: The world champion asked, “Hey, you’re the one with the spinning tops?” So the ‘trompos’ or the spinning tops are quite popular in Latin America. The top in fact features in the Del Rica emblem as well.
In turn, Ricardo Alvarez replied, “Yeah, can’t you see?” So when the younger brother told him, “Let’s have a go,” the older one replied, “You should have already been there,” and brought up plates filled with tacos. The next sequence shows the two brothers sitting at a table and enjoying the traditional Mexican dish.

But what stunned most of the fans watching the Instagram clip was the sheer similarity in the appearance of both the brothers. Let’s check what a few of them had to say.
Enjoying the banter and the striking resemblance, this fan made a joke about Canelo Alvarez talking to ‘himself’. They said, “When Canelo talks to Canelo, and Canelo answers him 😂” Echoing similar thoughts, the next one pointed humorously at how Canelo Alvarez’s brother had a more pronounced physical tribute to the champion than Canelo himself does. They said, “Canelo’s brother looks more like Canelo than Canelo.”

The following fan, however, observed the facial expressions of the super middleweight champion, especially when he saw the tacos. “Wow, Canelo’s face changed 😂 when he saw the tacos.” Watching the two brothers together put this user on an imaginative high. They could see the champion’s face through different timelines. This is what the user said: “Canelo before vs. Canelo now.”
Then for this follower, the whole footage gave a cinematic feel. They felt as if Canelo Alvarez was playing a double role. Laughing out loud, they said, “I thought it was Canelo doing two characters 😂👏” Clearly, fans thoroughly enjoyed the two brothers delighting in the outcomes of their toil.

Ricardo Alvarez commenced his career on February 8, 2008, some three years after the famous younger brother went professional. His records display 30 fights from which he won 24. The remaining 6 bouts are split equally between 3 losses and 3 draws. He doesn’t seem to have entered the ring after the September 2014 fight against John Michael Johnson.
