“The Hate You Have for Her Is Shocking”: Claressa Shields Draws the Ire of Fans for Lashing Out at Savannah Marshall

The rivalry between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall is unending. Even though the duo faced off against one another last year in a historic bout at O2 Arena, Greenwich, the flames of war have ignited once again. The rivalry between the two female boxers has been long-standing as it dates back to almost a decade ago. It started when they went against one another in an amateur boxing match back in 2012. It appears that they both may end up going at it once again.

In their previous bout, Shields secured the victory with a unanimous decision. Both fighters are coming off with a fresh victory against their opponents this year, Shields against Maricela Cornejo while Marshall won via majority decision against Franchon Crews Dezurn. It was at the post-fight press conference that the two-time Olympic Champion picked a fight with Marshall. Moreover, the three-division world champion even shared the video of her altercation on Twitter. She wrote, “They gone ask me a question then when I answer say “It’s her moment” get out my face and let me enjoy the press conference then. This entitled child gonna get her issue AGAIN”.

In the video, Shields can be seen provoking the undisputed super middleweight champion. She asked her to come to the USA for another bout and claimed that Marshall would get “Smoked again”. She hinted at the fight to possibly take place at 168 lbs. However, one comment from the British boxer seemed to have hit her nerves. She said, “Where are we gonna go? To your Leisure center?” This got the champ enraged as the laughter erupted from the crowds. She stood up and started yelling, “I’m smoking you!” repeatedly.

“Classless”: Fans disapprove of Claressa Shield’s post-fight appearance

Fans were not amused by Shields’ behavior to say the least. They pointed out how the animosity from Shields was undeserved. A user wrote, “The hate you have for her is shocking!” The user mentioned that Shields has been relentlessly ‘trashing’ Marshall “at every turn for the past year.” They further wrote, “Its not about you anymore.”

Another user pointed out that “Turning up to a press conference is a bit weird when it’s nothing to do with you though lol?” He further added, “You beat her yeah? Yet you wanted to be there. Your rattled by her it’s ok to admit.”

Meanwhile, Alan Smith claimed that Shields was there because she needs “her for a payday.”

Moreover, villa youth74 called Shields’ action “classless”. He said she shouldn’t have attended the “post fight conference and make it about yourself”.

One user pointed out that Shields “Couldn’t sell out a school hall. You need sav, she doesn’t need you.”
