Mike Tyson will make his highly anticipated return to the boxing ring after more than a decade against the 4-division champion Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout.

The hugely awaited showdown will take place on November 28th inside the Staples Center in California. Initially scheduled to take place on September 12th, the bout was pushed to a later date in order to maximize revenue.

Ahead of the bout, legendary trainer and former champion Jeff Mayweather shared his thoughts on the return of Mike Tyson. He also added that he believes that the fight won’t be an exhibition bout like it has been marketed, and it will be a ‘real fight’ when both the boxing legends steps inside the ring.

“Well, the fight is gonna be real. It’s not gonna be an exhibition. The fight itself is real, and I just hope that no one gets hurt because you can’t do the same thing that you do in your 20’s, or even in your 30’s actually in your 50’s.

“Basically, this fight can sell, more so, because of Mike Tyson. How big his name is, and he’s such a huge huge star in the sport.”

It’s hard not to agree with Mayweather. Boxers are supposed to exhibit their skills in an exhibition bout. However, the lead up to this bout has indicated that it’s going to be an absolute war when both the boxing legends meet later this month.

The return of Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson’s return has excited boxing fans around the globe. Iron Mike retired prematurely at the age of 35, bidding farewell to the boxing world soon after his loss to Kevin McBride back in 2005.

After almost 15 years, at 54, Tyson will finally step inside the boxing ring once again. However, he has a serious threat in front of him in the form of Roy Jones Jr.

“And Roy, he was such a great fighter when he was in his prime. But still, a lot of people still don’t necessarily know him. Roy was a great fighter, but the things that he did were never documented,” Mayweather said about the former 4-division champion.

Roy Jones Jr. entered the boxing world at a relatively older age than his contemporaries and went on to compete well into his early 40s. Needless to say, Roy Jones Jr. is the favorite going into the fight.

He has been relatively more active and has the advantage of age by his side. However, there’s no denying that the sport of boxing pays no heed to age and that even a single punch can end a fight.
