Fans of boxing have always debated the outcome of a potential bout between Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali. While a number of fans who worshipped ‘Kid Dynamite’ believed Tyson would shine against Ali, Tyson himself showed little interest in fighting Ali let alone defeating him. In his recent interaction with ESNEWS, the former heavyweight champion of the world encountered a fanmade poster titled “Clash of the Titans” which focused on Tyson and Ali. On being asked about what he thought about it, Tyson casually replied, “I like Ali”.

On different occasions, Tyson publicly acknowledged his love and respect for Muhammad Ali. In 1989, when Mike Tyson appeared on the Arsenio Hall Show and surprised Muhammad Ali, the latter jokingly expressed how he was scared of him. While Ali praised Tyson that night, host Arsenio Hall asked who would have won had the duo fought each other in their prime.

As soon as Tyson appeared on the show and surprised ‘The Greatest’ Muhammad Ali, Hall popped the question and excited the fans watching Tyson and Ali. Ali referred to Tyson as the “real champ” and spoke about the latter’s ability to land a powerful punch in the ring. “I wasn’t that powerful. I was so fast,” declared Muhammad Ali on the Arsenio Hall show. However, Ali also observed that in order for Tyson to hit him, ‘Kid Dynamite’ had to first catch him in the ring. Following Ali’s statements, Hall turned to Tyson and waited for him to reply to Ali.

“I know I’m great but can I tell you something?” said Tyson. “In this situation, every head must bow [and] every tongue must confess – ‘this is the greatest,’” added Tyson. Although Ali wondered about the outcome of Tyson hitting him, the latter argued that he had seen Ali with “killers” in the ring. In addition, Tyson, whose son recently stood in solidarity with those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey, admitted how by watching Ali he gained confidence in the ring.
