Ryan Garcia raised allegations of breach of his promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions in June through a demand letter. In response, Oscar De La Hoya initiated a legal response, filing a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Nevada later that month, seeking to enforce its existing contract with the young boxer. The ongoing legal proceedings have yet to be resolved.
Tensions reached a palpable climax between Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions during a press conference on Thursday, casting a shadow over Garcia’s upcoming welterweight bout against Oscar Duarte this Saturday. The pre-fight anticipation was marred by an extraordinary outburst from Garcia, which added an element of discomfort to the event. However, he presented a different mindset when talking about the issue in an interview.

Ahead of his fight, Ryan Garcia sat down with Boxing News for an interview. In this conversation, he talked about his preparation for this comeback fight, how he coped with his loss against Gervonta Davis, and also talked about his current relationship with Oscar De La Hoya. He mentioned that he isn’t giving much attention to it.
Garcia said, “I really haven’t even been spending any time thinking about that. I just been focused on this fight and training and all that. That’s for lawyers and everybody else to think about. I don’t need to think about any of that.” He also added that he doesn’t have any expectations to mend his relationship with him.
However, it didn’t seem like that for the boxer in the press conference. He took some direct digs at his promoter Oscar De La Hoya and his partner, Bernard Hopkins.

Amidst the fallout between Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions, Garcia candidly addressed the promotion’s role in his career, suggesting that Bernard Hopkins’ assertion about deciding his future in boxing was unwarranted. Garcia emphasized that his coach, team, and ultimately, God determine his trajectory in the sport. Expressing dissatisfaction with Oscar De La Hoya’s statements, Garcia believed it was evident that Golden Boy was favoring his opponent in the upcoming fight.
Garcia said, “At the end of the day I come to show what I bring, I’m laser focused. That’s where this confidence comes from.” As Garcia passionately delivered his perspective, De La Hoya, visibly frustrated, stood behind him, creating a charged atmosphere during the confrontation. So, the fact that Garcia is taking the calm route for his dispute with his promoter, didn’t seem that way during the press conference.
