Torres faced Cristian Baez at the Omega Products International Arena in Corona, California on August 20, 2022. The lightweight fight had reached the seventh round. And both fighters had already been knocked down in the previous rounds. Moreover, the middle rounds also saw Baez take over the fight with brutal shots to Torres’ body and head.

Torres had already scored one knockdown in round seven. This was when Baez signaled to touch gloves before resuming the fight. But Torres had other plans in mind as he proceeded to sock Baez in the face with a brutal left hook, as soon as the duo touched gloves.

Unsurprisingly, he was not at all remorseful about his controversial sleight of hand. Talking about the sucker punch, Torres said, “They always say protect yourself at all times. This is boxing, and fighters like myself are always on the attack. The referee gave the signal to start fighting again, and I came out guns blazing.”

Did Torres channel his inner Floyd Mayweather Jr?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. once claimed that his boxing record was the only epitome of the Almighty’s perfect creations. However, this crown prince of boxing was also once accused of sucker punching his opponent.

Mayweather faced Victor Ortiz at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada on September 17, 2011. There is no doubt that ‘TBE’ dominated the fight with his stellar defense and technical prowess. The fourth round saw Ortiz attack him with a headbutt, opening a nasty cut on his face.
