Errol Spence Jr. endeavors to redeem himself as he moves up to 154 and challenges for the gold against the newly crowned WBO and WBC champion Sebastian Fundora. The American boxer has a tumultuous path ahead, but does he have enough to revive his career? Rick Glaser doesn’t think so.
‘The Truth’ suffered a beatdown by Terence Crawford last year and registered his first loss. It wasn’t the loss that troubled the fans, but the devastating aftereffects. Spence Jr.’s last fight took a toll on his body. After spending almost a year on the sidelines, he will reportedly fight ‘The Towering Inferno’ in October. While many might give him a chance, Glaser thinks otherwise.
The 66-year-old turned to his X handle and gave his candid opinion of the former welterweight champion. He wrote, “…it’s not #ErrolSpence one loss that makes him completely shot, it’s the actual damage #Spence received in that one loss that makes Errol completely shot. That damage was degenerative, & permanent.”

For those that rode the Little Yellow Bus to school daily, it’s not #ErrolSpence one loss that makes him completely shot, it’s the actual damage #Spence received in that one loss that makes Errol completely shot. That damage was degenerative, & permanent. No, I’m not a Doctor,…

Glaser then drew parallels with the likes of Wilfred Benitez, Terry Norris, and Michael Grant, who were never the same boxer after a tough night in the office. He believed Spence Jr., 34, had reached a similar stage. Moreover, his eye surgery after the fight and his added mass to the frame suggest that Spence Jr. will find it hard to adjust at 154. The difficult task for the Long Island native would be to trim down to the weight limit as when he stood across Fundora, he appeared big compared to his opponent in the ring at the T-Mobile Arena.
That’s not it. Spence Jr. is already hinting at drawing curtains on his boxing career. “Might be last time you see me,” he declared on his social media as he talked about the upcoming fight with Fundora. This announcement has left the fans perplexed as they were hoping for a rematch with ‘Bud’. But if the stars align, the two can end up fighting soon.

Will Errol Spence Jr. run it back with Terence Crawford, but at 154?
If Spence Jr., at 28-1, wins the fight against Fundora, at 21-1-1, and snatches the WBC strap from him, it can set the stage for a unification fight. Notably, Crawford is challenging Israil Madrimov for the latter’s WBA light middleweight marble on August 3rd.
Crawford, at 40-0, is already the WBO mandatory. In the likely case of Fundora being stripped of his WBO title, he might be in a position to be a unified champion at the end of August. It could be that Spence Jr. and Crawford have 3 titles between them. And they could seize the opportunity of a mouth-watering rematch. But whether they will agree to the terms is a distant but realistic possibility.
