It’s almost been a decade since David Haye and Tyson Fury were getting ready for a spectacular bout at the Manchester Arena. However, the fight failed to take place, twice at that, leaving fans disappointed. After his victory against the cruiserweight, Steve Cunningham, the young fury caught the attention of Haye, and he agreed to a bout in November 2013. Haye, at that time, was looking for another title shot against unified world champion Wladimir Klitschko.
During a press conference in July 2013 at London’s Park Plaza Hotel, Fury showed how domineering he can be with a mic in his hands. Fury wore sunglasses and a white linen outfit, looking very casual as if he was going to a beach. Meanwhile, David Haye wore a tailored suit, which was heavily mocked by Fury. The conference was filled with Fury’s humorous assessment of Haye’s career discrediting Derek Chisora as an opponent. He even had a playful banter with presenter Adam Smith and even had Smith call him “Sexy”.
Though Haye ended up pulling out of the fight after he suffered a cut above his left eyebrow during sparring. They rescheduled the fight for February 8, 2014, however, that was also scrapped. ‘The Haymaker’ had to undergo shoulder surgery and wouldn’t return to the ring till 2016. By then Tyson was struggling with drink, drugs, and depression. The video of their conference recently resurfaced, and fans were quick to point out Fury’s apparent hypocrisy. Boxing reporter Michael Benson shared the video on Twitter. Tyson said, “Chisore, who when I beat him, he was a virgin, when you beat him, he was a journeyman.” Fury went on later to have a trilogy fight against Chisora. The most recent took place in 2022. Here is the disclosed fight purse for the fight.
