Daniel Dubois will face the biggest fight of his career, and his father, Dave Dubois, will be right there at ringside to support the 27-year-old Brit. After all, Dave played a key role in his son’s success against Jarrell Miller in December last year—at least that’s what ‘Dynamite’ says. The six-foot, five-inch behemoth is about to enter the ring against Anthony Joshua.
The all-British clash is scheduled to unfold on 21st September at the Wembley Stadium in Wembley, England, for the IBF heavyweight title—which was possible because Oleksandr Usyk relinquished it for the December 21st Tyson Fury fight. With his biggest fight on the horizon, possibly the biggest in the UK, ‘DDD’ has revealed how Frank Warren‘s strategic move helped his father play a crucial role in securing his victory over Miller.
A couple of days ago, DAZN Boxing released the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois Preview Documentary on YouTube—this is where the entire story unfolded. Reflecting on Dubois’ loss to Oleksandr Usyk, Warren revealed that the loss led to their decision to have the Dubois vs. Miller fight. Now, it was do or die for Dubois, and he knew that. Dubois’ coach and head trainer Don Charles said, “That Miller fight was definitely a must-win. There were times during that fight [when] the going got quite tough.” Even Dubois’ promoter saw the fight heading in the wrong direction for Dubois, which led him to come up with an idea.

He said, “It just felt to me he wasn’t listening. I knew then I had to get his dad.” Warren was right, what he and Dubois’ trainer couldn’t do, his father did easily. Dave stepped into the ringside as Dubois rested in his corner during the break, exhausted and drenched in sweat. While Dubois’s cornermen worked to revitalize the heavyweight, Dave leaned in and offered some encouraging words.
“Come on, Dan, wake up,” Dave shouted, catching his son’s attention. Dubois would go on to win the fight via a tenth-round technical knockout, showing how the right voice can change things instantly. Reflecting on that moment, ‘Dynamite’ said, “I hear that voice, I know it’s on. To have that voice and a person that can speak to you while you’re in the storm.” It would make anyone wonder: if those same words had been spoken during the Usyk or Joe Joyce fights, might the outcome have been different? However, the bigger question now is, who is Dave Dubois?

If Daniel Dubois’ story wasn’t captivating enough already, his father, Dave, has a remarkable journey from being a street trader to a boxing patriarch, which is nothing short of extraordinary. His story begins back in the 1980s when Dave made a fortune selling posters in New York. He took his venture to new heights and turned it into a multimillion-dollar business.
However, securing his and his children’s financial future wasn’t enough—Dave dedicated himself to raising his eleven children. Interestingly, many of them are rising boxing stars today. Even before ‘DDD’ was born, Dave saw him becoming a world champion. This belief and unwavering confidence is rooted in Dave from the story of Sylvia Dubois.
She was an 18th-century African-American bare-knuckle fighter who took back her freedom through her prowess. That brings us to today, where Dave has become a cornerstone for his children’s boxing careers, guiding them toward success with tough love and profound dedication. They say there’s always a woman behind every successful man, but in Dubois’ case, it’s clearly his father. This is the kind of support that can turn a boxer into a world champion, and Daniel Dubois is going to need a lot of it in the coming weekend.
