Eddie Hearn recently appeared on Stick to Football by Sky Bet. In the wake of Tommy Fury vs. KSI, he offered his honest opinion about YouTube boxing and how broadcasters paid heed to it. In this context, Hearn even ridiculed Tommy Fury’s boxing skills. According to Hearn, while there are people who are upset about YouTubers stepping inside the ring, broadcasters are interested in YouTube boxing since it is capable of bringing numbers.

In this context, while others showed concern for the safety of the YouTubers who fought, Hearn explained why YouTube boxing was not “dangerous“. Besides blasting Fury in the wake of his controversial win against KSI on October 14th, here is what Hearn said about the entertainment format of boxing.

According to Hearn, YouTube boxing is not dangerous since the YouTubers who box are not dangerous enough themselves. In his opinion, owing to the fact that most YouTubers cannot fight, they cannot hurt each other in the ring. However, contrary to the recent opponents ‘TNT’ has faced, Tommy Fury has been boxing from a young age and is consequently more skilLful than the likes of Jake Paul and KSI. At this, it is natural that one would show concern for the safety of the individuals Fury faces. However, Hearn feels otherwise.

Although Fury is a professional boxer, the chairman of Matchroom Sport believes the former is not proficient enough to endanger anyone’s life. “I mean he’s a professional boxer but he’s terrible,” he said. “He’s absolutely swam the channel. I mean he’s gone from making 40-5 grand a fight to making 3-5 million to fight a YouTuber,” Hearn. In this context, before moving on Hearn offered his opinion about YouTube boxing.

Hearn sheds light on the entertainment format of YouTube boxing

While there are people unhappy about YouTube boxing, Hearn invites one to understand the bigger picture and the marketing side of the sport. In his opinion, while there are people who feel YouTubers are “taking away opportunities from boxers,” one must understand that these YouTubers have built their profile, business, and following “to a point where he has actually earned the right to do whatever he wants“. “It’s an entertainment format. We’re keeping the sport great over here,” he added.
