We have a new world champion and looks like he is here to rule the lightweight division for a long time to come, or at least as long as he wishes to stay at 135 lbs. On Friday, Keyshawn Davis defeated Denys Berinchyk via a fourth-round knockout to snatch away his WBO lightweight belt. In doing so, the Businessman has established himself as a top figure in 135 and can prove to be a huge problem for Gervonta Davis moving forward. That is at least what Terence Crawford thinks.
The two-division undisputed champion was there at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York to extend support for his mentee and friend. He was extremely impressed by the performance put on by the new WBO lightweight champion and shared his verdict on the potential dream fight between the two Davises.

Terence Crawford proud of helping the young champ brush up
Soon after the fight, Sean Zittel got hold of the Omaha native and asked him about his influence on the 25-year-old’s fighting style. While Crawford had nothing but positive things to say about the new WBO champion, he refused to take any credit. “Keyshawn is a natural counter-puncher. He’s an offensive-minded fighter. So everything that you see tonight is Keyshawn, you know, we just sharpened it up a little bit,” stated Crawford. Considering that Bud’s longtime trainer Brian ‘Bomac’ Mcintyre is directly overseeing the young champion’s training at their B&B Sports Academy, Bud Crawford definitely had a great role to play in Keyshawn’s title win despite his modest assessment.

Women’s undisputed heavyweight champion, Claressa Shields, who was beside Bud also jumped in to shout, “Whatever he says is right.” Zittel also inquired about the ringside conversation Terence Crawford was having with Keyshawn Davis during the fight. “He looked at me, I told him. You know what I mean. Good body shot, you know. Start going down to that body. Start going to the body, slowing him down. I mean his punches was sharp. I see he had everything under control,” stated the Nebraskan proudly.
Well, as expected, any rising star in the 135lbs has to be pitted against Gervonta Davis. However, when it comes to Keyshawn Davis, we already have a rivalry brewing up between them. The Norfolk native has been constantly calling out Tank for the better part of last year. Considering he is now a world champion, all roads to an undisputed champion, it seems, go through him. This has made fans hopeful of the dream match-up with the WBA lightweight champion. Acknowledging the potential of the match, Terence Crawford also shared his verdict.

Keyshawn Davis vs. Gervonta Davis: the Battle Of Davises
“Oh man, it’ll be a tremendous fight,” declared the WBA light middleweight champion. He added, “You got two talented fighters. Both of them counter punchers, both of them smart,” while listing down the similarities between the duo. While fights can sometimes suffer if the boxers have similar styles, Terence Crawford believes that won’t be the case for this one.
After all, it will be two knock-out artists fighting for the crown of the lightweight division. Crawford admitted that “Tank might have a little more power you know but Keyshawn got power too.” ‘The Businessman’ has won 9 out of his 12 fights via knockouts and just knocked out Oleksandr Usyk‘s former teammate within five rounds. So, he has the power to challenge Gervonta Davis who himself has won 28 out of his 30 fights via knockouts.
Despite considering it a close fight, Terence Crawford thinks that there is indeed a clear winner. “It’d be a great fight and I think Keyshawn will win,” Terence Crawford predicted boldly. This can be quite surprising, as most of the boxing community will prefer Tank over the newly crowned WBO champion considering his enormous experience.

Since Crawford has a very close relationship with Keyshawn Davis, we can say that his opinion might have a tinge of bias. However, ‘The Businessman’ has proved that he will cause trouble for everyone at 135 lbs, something which even former four-division weight champion Roy Jones Jr. also agrees with. So this battle of the Davises, if and when it happens, will be quite entertaining to witness.
