Even the newbies of the boxing world will be aware of the name, Terence Crawford by now. The Southpaw from Omaha has recently been making headlines with his bold statements. Whether calling out fans for disrespecting underappreciated fighters or mocking Gervonta Davis, Crawford’s vocal presence has kept fans and analysts alike on their toes.

Terence Crawford’s latest attention-grabbing statement, however, comes ahead of a potential mega showdown with the Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez. As the buzz around the fight intensifies, the pound-for-pound great seems to be stepping up his game, delivering bold reactions that only fuel the already blazing fire of anticipation between him and Canelo.

Recently, BOXING n BBQ shared a clip from Source of Boxing showing Canelo Alvarez practicing his hooks on the heavy bag punching bag. The twelve-second clip, showcasing Canelo’s slow and measured rhythm while working on the bag, caught the attention of boxing fans worldwide. Team USA Boxing assistant coach Christine Lopez reshared the video, while sarcastically stating, “Folks thinking @terencecrawford just gonna stand in front like this punching bag kills me 😆 this is a made-for-social media video 💅 #boxing.” Her remark quickly became the talk of social media, igniting a series of reactions and comments, including one from Terence Crawford himself.

“That’s cute”—was all it took from Terence Crawford to get a good debate going on X. The undefeated WBA light middleweight champion didn’t hold back, sending a clear message that he was unfazed by Canelo’s workout clip. While Bud Crawford continues to stir the pot, Canelo Alvarez on the other hand remains much more reserved. The Guadalajara native has been relatively quiet on social media. The probable reason? Well… his last five fights saw a slow unanimous decision victory since his loss to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022 in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Despite that, Canelo seems calm and composed, letting his training videos do the talking instead of engaging in public banter.

Although reports suggest a Mexican Independence Day weekend showdown in September in Las Vegas, things are yet to be confirmed once and for all. But what we do know is that the fight is definitely on. And the fans are already fully invested. And, as the tension builds, it’s not just fans who are keeping a close eye on the situation—Terence Crawford is clearly paying attention too.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Crawford's confidence justified, or is Canelo's quiet strength the real threat in this showdown?

Following the 41-0 boxer’s reply to the clip, fans were quick to share their own thoughts.

Terence Crawford remains unbothered

One fan commented, “A real boxing fan knows that ain’t true. But he will get caught when Canelo cuts off the ring.” This comment touches on Canelo’s ability to close the distance and cut off the ring, a strategy he has used effectively in the past against elusive opponents.

Another fan boldly stated, “Canelo is losing! Same way Floyd & Bivol beat him but maybe worse.” This comment was a reminder of his September 2013 loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the unanimous decision loss against Dmitry Bivol in May 2022, speculating that Terence Crawford might present an even greater challenge.

Another fan chimed in with, “Canelo hasn’t KO’d a boxer in 8 years lol showing his power does absolutely nothing.” Which is not true by the way. How can one forget his knockout victory over Caleb Plant in November 2021 at his hunting ground in Las Vegas? And another one against Sergey Kovalev in November 2019? Anyway, this comment only points out that Canelo’s lack of recent knockouts diminishes his ability to dominate opponents like he once did.

Another comment predicted, “Bud by decision unless he gets robbed….I think people forget Canelo struggles with fighters who can box and move but hey what do I know 🤷🏾‍♂️.” This fan strongly believes that Crawford’s superior boxing skills, including his footwork and ring IQ, would give him an advantage over Canelo.

Lastly, a fan boldly asserted, “Crawford gets hit.” This comment reflects a belief that Canelo Alvarez could catch the undefeated two-division undisputed champion at some point, forcing him to take risks he doesn’t usually have to take.

However with the ongoing drama, many are left wondering how this rivalry will play out. As we wait for official confirmation of the fight, one thing is certain: the world is ready for this electrifying clash. But how do you think the fight will unfold? Let us know your thoughts below!
