Very few people would like to step inside the squared circle with Terence Crawford willingly. It sounds even harder to imagine, as the American fighter finds himself at the top of the boxing world since defeating Israil Madrimov in a closely contested bout and racking up the WBA super welterweight title. But this hasn’t stopped Teofimo Lopez‘s hot pursuit. If anything, he is more determined. However, this comes at the cost of being bashed and slandered.
That’s what happened when Brian Bomac McIntyre interacted with the media, and when asked about ‘The Takeover’s callout, he minced some choice words. Lopez, 27, and Crawford, 36, have developed animosity over the possibility of a fight this year. While Lopez wants the fight to become “greater,” Crawford has shunned the idea. It seems the newly crowned WBA champion’s trainer also shares the same thought.
When interacting with the media after celebrating the win over Madrimov, one of the journalists asked for McIntyre’s opinion on Lopez’s callout. The American trainer declared candidly, “F*ck Teofimo Lopez. He don’t bring to the table neither. Trash, he trash. He used to be good but now he trash. You heard it first, y’all. Put it out there. He trash. You trash. You straight trash dawg.”

There is a growing sentiment in the boxing community that the WBO super lightweight champion has already had his best fights and is now on a downward trajectory, as he is barely squeezing out wins in recent fights. But he still has the heart to come out in the open and challenge the best his division has to offer. Despite setting his heart on ‘Bud,’ Lopez has also specified that he would challenge the other champions at 140 to unify the titles. What about Crawford? He is chasing the Canelo Alvarez fight next. But Lopez, at 21-1, believes that he should avoid the fight. Why is that?

Teofimo Lopez raises alarm for Terence Crawford fans
Lopez was in attendance when Crawford, 41-0, won the WBA title at 154, but he was not impressed with what he saw in the ring. It was a tactical fight, where Crawford marginally edged out Madrimov. Based on what he witnessed, the Brooklyn native told the media, “That age is catching up to Crawford. Let’s see what he does next. I don’t think he should fight Canelo.”
It remains to be seen whether Crawford will bag a date with the Mexican champion. A date would be somewhere around 2025, as Alvarez is slated to face Edgar Berlanga on September 14. Should the Omaha native remain active or wait for the Alvarez fight? It’s a tough call that he has to make. But he doesn’t have the luxury of time at 36.
