Gervonta Davis is not a big fan of trash-talking and likes to do his talking inside the ring. Ryan Garcia got to know about it last year when Tank knocked him out in the seventh round. And now it looks like Teofimo Lopez is going to be the next victim of the WBA lightweight champion.

A few weeks ago, Lopez called out both Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford while using some pretty racist remarks. The two-division champ referred to them as “monkeys” and “gorillas.” The Brooklyn native, after the backlash, made it clear that he used these terms just to get a reaction out of Tank and Bud so that they would agree to a fight. While the slurs simply disappointed Crawford, Gervonta Davis did not take the insult lightly as he promised to teach Lopez a lesson.

Gervonta Davis’ scary promise

During the official press conference for his upcoming Lamont Roach fight, Tank was the talk of the town. Speaking to the reporters, he was asked about various things, including his future, a potential fight against Shakur Stevenson, and what he makes of Lopez’s statement. It was evident that the 30-0 boxer did not take the statement lightly as he replied, “I’m going slap the s**t out of him when I see him,” in a furious tone. That is when a reporter asked, “What did you think about Teofimo calling you and Crawford gorillas?” Davis snapped back, “I just said what I said.”

Tank further added that ‘The Takeover’ will completely change his demeanor once he comes in front of him “coz they all p**sies. All you see is p**sies.” He then referenced how Keyshawn Davis was also trying to provoke him, but has been silent since he responded to him. “What Keyshawn said when I said what I said on Twitter. Try to provoke him he don’t like when people call him b***es. What I call him? b***h,” stated Tank.

He further mentioned that Teofimo Lopez is all talks and won’t be the same when they face each other if that ever happens. “I provoked him to do something. He ain’t come with that same energy. He call me a yeah, I bet.”

A few days ago, Terence Crawford also fired back at Teofimo Lopez for the racist remarks stating, “Teo is like the little kid that’s screaming for attention.” Bud further added that if he had made a racial slur like in response, everyone would have been out for his blood. “Had me or Tank called him a racial slur, they would’ve been trying to cancel us, calling us racist. It would’ve been all over the news,” stated Crawford.

The statement from Lopez has not only affected Tank and Crawford, but the whole boxing community has been criticizing the 27-year-old.

Teofimo Lopez under fire

A few months ago, the WBO Super Lightweight champion appeared on Broadway Joel and picked opponents between Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford. He said, “Whichever monkey wants to get the banana!” stating that he does not care and will fight either of them. The 27-year-old further added, “They say they are gorillas. I’m a lion. I eat them.”

However, Lopez later retracted those statements stating that he just wanted to get the attention of Tank and Bud and had no intention of being racist. In an interview with GHB TV, he said, “I am not talking about everyone. I am not talking about people’s color. I am really just trying to get at these guys, so they can at least bark a little bit, so we can make a fight.”

Even though Lopez has succeeded in getting the attention of both fighters, it is not exactly what he wanted. In September, both Lopez and Bud were in the audience for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga fight and the pair got into a ringside scuffle. Things escalated, as Bud even had an altercation with Lopez’s father who tried to intervene.

While the fight with Crawford seems unlikely, Lopez might have a chance with Gervonta Davis. However, the route he took to issue the challenge is saddening and has backfired on him significantly. What are your views on Gervonta Davis’ comments? Let us know your thoughts down below.
