Two of the emerging names of the sport: Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis may fight against one another in the near future. Davis is coming off an impressive win against boxing prospect and star, Ryan Garcia. The prodigy of Floyd Mayweather Jr. has captivated the interest of fans and also his rivals in the sport. Recently, Lopez Sr. took the name of Davis as a potential opponent for his son.
Lopez, in his own right, has proven himself in the ring as a formidable opponent for anyone in the division. He is the former undisputed lightweight champion and is the current WBO super-lightweight champion. In his most recent fight, he fought Scottish fighter, Josh Taylor, and dethroned him by winning a unanimous decision. The two competitors fight in different divisions but as they say, “Where there is a will, they is a way,” similarly, Lopez Sr. has expressed his interest in this fight which makes it possible for the two stars to square off in the ring.

Teofimo Lopez’s father is “waiting for” Gervonta Davis
Lopez Sr. is the trainer of the current WBO Super lightweight champion and an integral part of the boxer’s life. He is no stranger to making bold claims on behalf of his son and in the past as well has indulged himself in his son’s affairs outside the ring. Ahead of his most recent fight, Lopez Sr. was confident in the fact that his son would cross paths with Davis. Notwithstanding Davis defeating Garica, a top prospect, Lopez Sr. thinks Davis has yet to compete against formidable opponents like his son. Although he has all the respect in the world for Davis as a fighter, he is confident in his son’s chances against him in a potential fight.

As per Boxing scene, he stated, “Tank is a f—— monster,” He added, “I respect Tank, he has a powerful left hand but he needs to go to the top dogs. We’re right there, we’re waiting for him.” It would be highly unlikely that this potential bout would take place in super lightweight division. Considering Lopez has fought in the lightweight division in the past, he may go down to fight him.
