Teofimo Lopez wants a rumble, and he wants it against the absolute best. At least that’s what he is saying. The American fighter is longing for a bigger fight, a bigger payday, and he has set his sights on the likes of Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford. It seems he has even dragged in Jaron Ennis.

Lopez, 27, has been criticized this year for producing two lackluster fights, one against Jamaine Ortiz and the latest being Steve Claggett. So, his stocks have taken a hit, and despite triumphing over Josh Taylor last year, some fans have raised serious questions about his boxing credentials. It was no wonder the WBO champion was hyped up and pushed for some big names when he got the opportunity.

Teofimo Lopez puts Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford on alert

Lopez, at 21-0, appeared on the analysts’ desk when the Top Rank’s ESPN card aired this Saturday. With 2024 about to draw curtains, the fans are curious about his 2025 plans, and when asked about the same, he listed all the big names in boxing. He said, “Jaron Ennis [Boots], Gervonta Davis, and finish with Terence Crawford.”

This call-out resonates with the lightweight champion’s desire to have an explosive 2024, as he recently disclosed his desire to run it with Ryan Garcia. This clip of him gunning for other names soon made the rounds on the internet as the boxing fans took to the comment section and expressed their candid opinions on the callout.

Fans mock Lopez for misplaced ambitions

One fan believed these fights were not possible practically. They declared, “He saying that because he know it ain’t going to happen lol.” While ‘Tank’ fought a division below and has expressed unwillingness to move up, Crawford fought at 154, making it a two-division jump on either side. Even Ennis has flirted with the idea of moving up.

Is Teofimo Lopez biting off more than he can chew with his call-outs to boxing's elite?

Have an interesting take?

A user lauded ‘Takeover’ for his valiant call-out but predicted a 0-3 drubbing. They wrote, “So fight the hardest fights out there…. Respectable but he ain’t winning not one of these fights 😂.” Interestingly, Davis and ‘Boots’ have an explosive fighting style, which could cause trouble for Lopez. Whereas, some could point out the technical and skills gap between him and Crawford.

Someone floated an imaginative scenario of Lopez regretting his decision afterward. They announced, “He gonna be cryin wondering do he still got it fr.” Lopez’s recent shaky performances and the rest of the fighters’ knack for knockouts could make him rethink his decision. In addition, a loss could rest in his boxing career getting detailed.

A comment also described the same 0-3 result for the Brooklyn native. The comment read, “Losing all 3 fights 😂.” What has divided the fans is Lopez’s inconsistency in bigger fights, which could again cost him a result in big fights such as his first career loss to George Kambosos Jr.

Lastly, a fan shed light on the competition in the lightweight division. They stated, “Why not Ryan, Haney, hitchens, caterall, or Rayo….u know the realistic fights he can make lol.” Richardson Hitchins clinched the IBF title when he handed Liam Paro a defeat and immediately called out Lopez for a unification fight. It could be an exciting fight to look for in 2025.
