The Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr. bout has hit yet another roadblock as Triller has washed its hands off the troubled lightweight collision. Earlier, this fight was set to take place on June 5, but it later got shifted to June 19. Post that, the champ tested positive for Covid-19, and he had to withdraw from this fight.

Triller, the organizer of this fight, then finally booked August 14 as the date for this collision. However, due to some uncertainties, this fight again got canceled. A few days back, it was reported that this bout would come to fruition on October 4.

Following more uncertainties and as they were losing money, Triller will now progress with the event on October 16, sans the Lopez vs Kambosos Jr fight.

Triller has even moved to the IBF to strip Kambosos Jr. of the IBF mandatory spot in the lightweight roster. Recently, Dan Rafael also shed some light on this matter on his Twitter handle.

He wrote, “I obtained letter from Triller lawyer to IBF seeking to get Kambosos stripped of mandatory status. 1 of many interesting nuggets: Lawyer wrote that to help get Kambosos to agree to date switch, Lopez agreed to “verbally and in writing” to give $150k of his purse to Kambosos.”

Who’s next for Teofimo Lopez?

Lopez has been eager to defend his multiple lightweight titles. And now that Triller has moved to the IBF to remove Kambosos Jr. from the race, the next mandatory challengers might be Isaac Cruz, Gustavo Lemos, Lee Selby, and more.

The constant cancellation of Lopez vs Kambosos Jr.’s fight has undoubtedly put a dent in the lightweight division and the sport in general. This is because other mandatory challengers were denied their title shots and there was no activity from the champion.
