Brooklyn native Teofimo Lopez was born on July 30th, 1997 to Teofimo Lopez Sr. and Jenny Lopez. His father, who is a boxing trainer himself has been the inspiration for his son to get into boxing. ‘The Takeover’ is all set to go up against Steve Claggett on June 29th, at the James L. McKnight Center in Miami Beach, Florida. His fans know everything about his boxing career. However, very little is known about his family.

Back in 2018, the boxer was traveling to Las Vegas from New York after his victory against Vitor Jones Freitas at the Madison Square Garden. The boxer struck up a conversation with a girl from Nicaragua on a Delta Airlines flight, and that’s how Lopez and Cynthia’s romance began. Teofimo describes it as love at first sight. You must be thinking that she was a fellow passenger on the flight. However, Cynthia was an air hostess on the Delta Airlines flight.

Just a year after that, Cynthia and Teofimo who was 22 at the time, tied the knot on April 23rd, 2019. After their marriage, the couple went on a beautiful honeymoon in Greece. They became parents and had a beautiful son soon after. The boxer’s Instagram is filled with photos and videos of his son. Of the many photos of his son, in one photo, Lopez can be seen looking at his son with warmth. The caption on the image reads, “I will live for you my beautiful son! In Jesus merciful name.” His son’s name is Teofimo Lopez III, and he was born on November 16th, 2021.

‘The Takeover’ had admitted to his separation from his wife Cynthia in 2022. Nevertheless, the two were seen together at a boxing event. The pair finally separated in 2023, and Lopez revealed in an interview that Cynthia was the one who initiated the divorce. He stated in an interview that his ex-wife would take half of his money. But he’s trying to get over it, and he believes, “You live and you learn.” 

Teofimo Lopez was more broken about not getting to see his son. Lopez stated disappointedly, “It’s tough sometimes. For her to kind of diss me in front of the whole world by not passing my kid, or our kid, I should say. It’s stuff like that really [takes a] toll [on me]. I’m doing everything for my son. I’m doing this for the new generation of boxing. So when those things that come into play at that time, of course I’m gonna be very disappointed. But I’m learning throughout the works of everything. Such is life. It comes with the territory.”
