Though he’s done with the first title defense, the future plans of Teofimo Lopez still remain unclear. However, the champion still has to keep himself sharp and ready. Given the reported flak he received for the Jamaine Ortiz fight, he may have felt a need to upskill himself a bit. Otherwise, what could explain the reason for interacting with a known attacking ace in the ring?

‘The Takeover’ shared a glimpse of the meeting through his Instagram story. Despite all the showmanship and paraphernalia, going by the boos and the criticisms, seemingly the fight on February 8 ended on a rather insipid note for Teofimo Lopez. Especially after the way he had trounced Josh Taylor last year, many expected a similar performance against Jamaine Ortiz. But eventually, as it turned out, fans and followers found him struggling against ‘The Technician’. Who knows, in the next bout, a few words of wisdom from the former world champion might come in handy.

A few hours ago, Teofimo Lopez uploaded a short video to his Instagram story. It shows him moving around and chatting with former pound-for-pound and two-time unified champion Gennady Golovkin. Going by the monikers inscribed across the ring corners and the walls, it appears the meeting took place at the latter’s boxing gym. In fact, Teofimo Lopez seems to be sporting the ‘Triple G’ cap as well.

Unfortunately, due to the loud music and chatting, the duo’s conversation remained inaudible. However, going by the hand actions, it appeared that Golovkin and Lopez must have been discussing some techniques. ‘The Takeover’ shook hands and hugged ‘Triple G’ as he took his leave a few minutes later. Little information has been offered about the reasons behind this get-together, with no clear details provided either in the story or through any subsequent posts.

There’s no official confirmation as of now regarding Gennady Golovkin’s retirement. The former champion last fought archrival Canelo Alvarez on September 17, 2022, for the latter’s undisputed super middleweight title. Then last year, news came that ‘Triple G’ had relinquished the IBF and WBA (super) middleweight titles that he held. Towards the end of 2023, fans came across a few pictures of Golovkin promoting his new venture, an energy drink. But given that he will turn 42 in April, there seems to be little chance of the boxing legend making a return to the ring.
