Devin Haney looked absolutely brilliant in his second title defense for the WBC lightweight championship after a comfortable unanimous decision win over Yuriorkis Gamboa. The stakes were high with ‘The Dream’ looking to make a statement. While he may have failed to earn a stoppage win, Haney absolutely dominated proceedings.
Haney has stated in the past that he is not a one-punch knockout artist. The 21-year-old believes in putting a “pretty” show for the boxing fans and wants to look clinical throughout the fight. Ahead of the fight, all eyes were on Haney considering Gervonta Davis had secured a stoppage win over the Cuban boxer with a 12th round TKO win late last year.
Needless to say, the performance was as pretty as it gets as ‘The Dream’ put on a clinic.

The WBC lightweight champion extended his undefeated streak to 25-0. At just 21 years of age, there’s no doubt that he is set for greatness as he moves on in his professional boxing career.
Eddie Hearn among others react to Devin Haney’s incredible win
Teddy Atlas, Eddie Hearn, and unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez took to Twitter to congratulate ‘The Dream’ on his emphatic win. After the end of the bout, the judges’ scorecards read 118-109 and 120-107.
Needless to say, a lot of credit has to go to Gamboa’s way as well. He looked spectacular and took the shots well. Additionally, he did not deter in the face of Haney’s incredible pressure and sheer power. He displayed grit and determination throughout the contest.
Even though it was his second straight loss, there’s still a lot of fight left in the Cuban veteran. Hence, it would be foolish to write him out.

I’m a big Devin Haney fan but that was pretty underwhelming.

Ok I’m going back to football, where both sides move the ball. Haney class act in post fight interview. #HaneyGamboa #dazn #boxing

AGAIN!! Need I said more?? UNDISPUTED LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION! 👑 #TheTakeover pic.twitter.com/o6oVNr6j36

Dominant from Devin Haney, but no explosive statement as Yuriorkis Gamboa goes the distance. Haney wins a wide UD to defend his WBC lightweight title.

Gamboa looked like he was pissed. Did he really believe he won? He snatched his arm from the ref during the decision.

How does everyone feel about this main event on DAZN? I honestly believed that Devin would get him out of there early, but a win is a win. On to the next 👊🏾#HaneyGamboa

Soon after the win, Lopez took to Twitter to take a subtle dig at the ‘Eraser’. He did not look impressed and called it an “Email champion performance.” Be that as it may, the feud is real, and if the match-up does materialize, it is bound to grab the attention of boxing fans around the world.
