The end of the year is here, and talks for big fights in 2025 have already started. One such fight in the making is Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford. Certain technicalities and alignment of stars hinder the fight, but if that happens, who are fans going to side with? It seems Teofimo Lopez has already picked his side. And he believes he has a good reason for it, too.

Crawford, 37, has long desired a fight with the Mexican champion, and it’s an open secret for everyone. So, every time a strong rumor wind blows, the fans pick the sides, and for Lopez, 27, Alvarez, 34, is the clear victor. Why so?

The WBO champion appeared in a conversation with FightHype and the reporters asked him how the victor takes home the victory. He gave a two-fold answer. First, jumping too many weight classes. Secondly, the style difference between ‘Bud’s past opponents and the super middleweight champion’s approach.

Teofimo Lopez, at 21-1, said, “Listen, we can have the skills and everything but jumping that much. Like, jumping like that much, getting hit. I don’t think Crawford ever fought a fighter that hit him directly. ‘The Takeover’ continued, “Just straight constantly in the arms. And it’s not because they can’t; they don’t think that way. Remember, this man has been pro since what 14.”

Many boxing fans and pros have expressed their concerns over the weight class jump that Crawford, at 41-0, has to make—a whooping 18 lbs or two weight classes. You shouldn’t forget that he only moved up from 147 in the last fight in August against Israil Madrimov. But what about the fight? Is it even happening?

Canelo Alvarez leaves the door open for Terence Crawford

Alvarez, at 62-2-2, recently hinted at being open to the business talks, as he was spending time with his family and might start looking for an opponent for his annual Cinco de Mayo fight in January. He said, “I never say no to business. So if it’s business for me, I’m open to talk. No matter what.”

What’s your perspective on:

Can Terence Crawford handle Canelo Alvarez's power, or is he biting off more than he can chew?

Have an interesting take?

These comments are in line with the Guadalajara native’s policy of taking a fight-at-a-time policy. He seemingly angered HE Turki Alalshikh around September, as he was focused on the Edgar Berlanga fight when he turned down the opportunity to open discussions about a future fight involving Crawford. But the fight could be made next now, as Crawford and the Saudi adviser could sway him with a lucrative offer.
