Teofimo Lopez has been working his way up in the world of boxing. The current unified lightweight champion is ranked as one of the P4P best boxers in his division, so he is earning a lot of notoriety as well. Lopez headlined a card against Vasyl Lomachenko to restart his career after the COVID-19 hiatus. The fight didn’t have a crowd, but it was an electric atmosphere either way. Lopez won a close decision to retain his belt.

However, he does feel slighted by the treatment he has received from everyone. After talking about the likes of Gervonta Davis in the last few days, Lopez has taken to Twitter to spit some more vitriol.

Teofimo Lopez is obviously referring to the trend started by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul. The pair have fought inside a boxing ring twice on PPV, and have generated fantastic numbers. Now, Logan Paul’s brother, fellow YouTuber Jake Paul, will fight former NBA player Nate Robinson on the under-card of the Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. card.

Teofimo Lopez and where he is headed

Attacking fans that watch YouTubers box is very petty. Obviously, they don’t have the same talent that professional boxers do, but they do put in a lot of effort. They have talent, but not at the level of pro boxers. Lopez should recognize it as a sideshow and keep rolling in his world of legitimate competition.

What fans want to buy is up to them, anyway. Lopez can get more people involved in legitimate boxing by fighting either Ryan Garcia or ‘Tank’ Davis next. It will obviously help him sell more cards and trump the attention received by YouTubers turned boxers.

A world champion shouldn’t really feel the need to comment on what exhibition fighters are doing. These are two different worlds and serve two different purposes. Hopefully, Lopez can channel this energy into the training for his next fight as he aims to make his case as the best lightweight in the world.
