Who doesn’t prefer a little drama before the big showdown? It’s nothing new for boxing fans. This time, the rising lightweight prospect, Keyshawn Davis is at the center of it all. In just a few hours, ‘The Businessman’ will clash with WBO champion Denys Berinchyk in what will be his first world title match on Valentine’s Day at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. With an impressive 81% winning rate on betting platforms, Keyshawn Davis, despite being the challenger, enters the bout as the overwhelming favorite.

This raises the stakes for the Ukrainian, who knows that Davis could potentially dethrone him. It might be the reason why things have been getting more tense between the two. It reached a boiling point where Berinchyk even pushed Davis into the crowd during their weigh-ins yesterday, leading to a melee. Eventually, the security had to intervene to separate the two groups. So, what exactly went down? Let’s dive in and find out from the man of the hour.

Keyshawn Davis jumped over five guards

After completing the weigh-in, both fighters took the stage for the customary photo op and face-off. But as the event was winding down, Denys Berinchyk pushed Keyshawn Davis off the stage and into the crowd. This act of aggression was met with an immediate reaction from Davis, who wasted no time and responded in kind. Later, the Norfolk native took to social media to address the incident, calling out the WBO Lightweight champion and emphasizing the personal nature of the attack.

In a video shared by Fight Hub TV, Davis expressed his frustration. He mentioned being pushed, and according to him, the push was accompanied by racist slurs directed at him. “I got pushed, racist slanders, all type of stuff. They trying to get me off my game,” he stated in the clip. These things seem to have been intended to provoke him. Why? According to him, Berinchyk might be trying to disrupt Keyshawn Davis’ focus from their match. “That’s got nothing to do with the fight. Trying to get me out of my game. What’s going on?” He continued.

The 12-0 boxer further revealed how he broke through security to confront the 19-0 boxer. By his recollection, he managed to get past not 1 or 2, but 5 security guards to confront the Ukrainian. However, instead of answering back, “He pushed me and started running,” recalled the Businessman. For Davis, this was a clear indication of how the 36-year-old felt about him. Davis feels that Berinchyk had cowardly avoided the consequences of his actions by running away. However, Keyshawn Davis now seems determined to exact vengeance on Denys Berinchyk come fight night for what the Norfolk native considers a disrespectful act.

However, this wasn’t even the most controversial thing to happen in the lead-up to their fight.

The package that started off a feud

Just a day before the weigh-ins, a box of bananas and watermelon had been delivered to Keyshawn Davis’ hotel room by the staff. The package came with a note that read, “Here’s a snack for all those hight jumps. Stay energized businesswom.. That was seen by Davis as a racist insult aimed at him and his culture.

However, Denys Berinchyk has denied any involvement in sending the package, and even addressed the allegations at their press conference, claiming that he doesn’t speak or write English. Therefore, it is impossible for him to send them a package. Speaking through a translator, he stated, “Denys don’t know about all of this stuff. He don’t send nothing and he don’t know.” While the 36-year-old’s words attempt to clear his name, the incident has only intensified the personal nature of this match. As the controversy unfolded during Black History Month, emotions were running high, and the fighters’ tense standoff at the press conference only escalated the situation.

Despite the lack of concrete evidence connecting the Ukrainian boxer to the package, the accusations have left fans divided. With both fighters seemingly on edge, this bout is shaping up to be more than just a title fight—it’s become a battle for pride and respect.

Will Davis’s emotions fuel him to a first-round knockout? Is it possible that the allegations against Berinchyk are an attempt to gain a psychological advantage over him before the match? And most importantly, who do you think is going to win – Keyshawn Davis? or Denis Berinchyk?
