Shakur Stevenson was at his conservative best against the last-minute replacement, Josh Padley on ‘The Last Crescendo’ supercard. The Newark native successfully defended his WBC lightweight title via a 9th-round knockout victory. However, no one could say that it was a dominating performance.

Stevenson took his sweet time to get into the groove before showing his far superior skills in the later rounds. However, this decision by the 23-0 fighter left everyone quite bored, which was at times visible by the occasional booing he received, despite winning the fight. However, it looked like not only fans, but even Gervonta Davis was quite bored with the fight as he ripped apart the Newark native with his one-word reaction.

Gervonta Davis’ brutal knockdown

During the Stevenson vs. Padley fight, Gervonta Davis took to his ‘X’ and basically mocked Sugar. He didn’t even wait for the fight to conclude and wrote, “Lol,” putting the quality displayed by Stevenson in question. However, considering Padley had only four days to prepare, it was definitely quite surprising that the WBC lightweight champion let the fight go nine rounds until bringing him down. The tweet by Tank has increased the tension between him and Stevenson as the pair have been exchanging verbal blows for the past few weeks now.

While Shakur Stevenson has been chasing the unifying bout, Gervonta Davis has shown no interest in it. However, the Newark native is not a bit worried about Tank’s opinion on the fight and is at ease with his performance.

Shakur Stevenson targeting the biggest fight in boxing

Ring Magazine caught the WBC lightweight champion right after his big win. Stevenson had a satisfied look on his face. Even though he acknowledged that the fight never felt like a big one as he was prepared for Floyd Schofield. However, “I just did what I was supposed to do,” Stevenson stated. And now he can look forward to more legitimate challenges in the lightweight division.

The interviewer asked the Newark native about his future in the star-stacked lightweight division. However, Sugar rejected the idea of it being the best division “when lot of these dudes are just scared,” he claimed. He drew attention to his repeated challenges to William Zepeda over recent years, when the latter should issue out challenges given his mandatory status. “Why am I calling the number 1 mandatory out? I respect the talent in the division, but a lot of these fighters are scared to make the biggest fights. So, I don’t respect them,” declared Stevenson boldly.

However, despite his disappointment, fans are desperate to know who is Sugar targeting as his next opponent. The interviewer became the voice of the fans as she asked, “Tell us who you are going for?” Well, despite Gervonta Davis’ reluctance to make the fight happen, there is no doubt in Stevenson’s mind. “Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. I think that is the biggest fight in boxing. We make the most money if we make this fight happen. So, let’s do it,” declared the 27-year-old confidently.
