Fans could have an epic fight on their hands! Former super middleweight title contender Edgar Berlanga is reportedly booked for a fight on March 8th in Puerto Rico, which is sort of being looked at as a homecoming fight. However, his opponent for the fight remains nameless yet, with some reports suggesting it could be anyone outside of the top 15 rankings.
Amid all this drama, a rival has emerged back up from the shadows to call for a fight between them. Who is he? Well, it’s none other than former IBF and the current ‘Interim’ WBA super middleweight champion Caleb Plant. The pair previously butted heads when Berlanga was about to fight Canelo Alvarez last year.
During the press conference for the fight, Berlanga had mocked Plant for losing to ‘Cinnamon.’ Canelo himself had promised to deliver a beatdown to Berlanga in response to the disrespect towards Plant. Regardless, ‘Sweethands’ Plant fought and defeated Trevor McCumby on the undercard of the same fight, and since has revealed he is interested in a fight against Berlanga.

On Saturday, Plant revealed a few names he would like to fight, on his path to a resurgence as champion in super middleweight. “Whatever comes my way, I’ll be ready for it,” Plant told the media on Saturday. “I absolutely want the [Edgar] Berlanga fight. I want the [Jermall] Charlo fight. If [Jaime] Munguia can work his way back into being something that is worth going after, I will take that as well. [Being a champion again] is big on the list.”

However, now it appears Plant is singling out Berlanga for a potential blockbuster. Of late, a fan shared his prediction for the potential fight on X, writing, “Caleb Plant BEATS Edgar Berlanga.” This seems to have caught Plant’s attention, who quickly responded, noting, “Let’s make it happen.” However, this begs the question, what started the feud between the duo?

Berlanga attempted to shake Plant’s hand, but it was ignored. That was the last straw. “He just kept going, I was just like, ‘What?’ After this, dude, man, I just started going off on him. And from right there, it was over.” Interestingly enough, the pair have even sparred together in the Mayweather gym a decade ago.
