Mario Barrios just became the WBC Interim World Welterweight champion following his victory over Yordenis Ugas on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo. Besides being more active and accurate, Barrios dropped Ugas twice in the final round of the fight. As a result, ‘El Azteca’ won the bout via a UD. While Tim Cheatham scored the bout 117-108, Chris Flores and Steve Weisfeld scored the contest 118-107 in Barrios’ favor.

In this context, it is worth mentioning that while Barrios fought his last in February against Jovanie Santiago, Yordenis Ugas just made his return to the ring 17 months after the bout against Errol Spence Jr. in April 2022. As expected, Barrios, the former WBA Superlightweight Champion, was the better fighter tonight and thoroughly dominated Ugas in the ring. While Ugas fought an impressive battle against Spence Jr. last year, he barely had Barrios in a fix. As a result, fans went on to call ‘The Truth’ overrated in light of Ugas’ defeat.

Despite suffering a 10th-round TKO loss to Spence Jr., Ugas earned praise because of the sheer display of his skills and spirit. Likewise, as he entered the ring with Mario Barrios, fans expected fireworks. Unfortunately, it was a one-sided fight. In this connection, following Ugas’ loss, fans could not help but think of how Gervonta Davis conquered Barrios when the duo met in 2021. And given the manner in which Barrios controlled ’54 Milagros’ today, they believed Gervonta Davis would “technically” beat Errol Spence Jr. in a potential fight.

Likewise, one fan called ‘The Truth’ “overrated”.

Meanwhile, one said that “technically, Davis beat Spence“.
