After racking up 18 wins on the trot, Floyd Schofield finally had the shot at the WBC lightweight title but pulled out just days away from his fight against Shakur Stevenson. The thing that took the whole boxing community by surprise was the 22-year-old’s father’s claim that ‘Sugar’s team may have “poisoned” his son with the help of their masseuse since he fell ill this close to the fight.
This, obviously, did not sit well with Shakur Stevenson and his co-manager Josh Dubin who reminded Floyd Schofield Sr. there could be a potential defamation lawsuit waiting for him due to such accusations. Now, the WBC lightweight champion’s strength and conditioning coach, Torae Stevenson, gave their side of the story while responding to Schofield’s father’s accusations.
Shakur’s coach, who’s also his cousin, claimed that they had no masseuse with them when they traveled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Hence, the claims about him poisoning Floyd Schofield are nothing but “cap.” During an interview on Cigar Talk, Torae Stevenson said, “I don’t know what they got going on, but we didn’t even bring no massage lady out here… We ain’t got no one on the team giving massages.”

Shakur Stevenson’s team also doubted that it was poisoning that led Floyd Schofield to pull out of their fight this weekend. His coach simply claims that the 22-year-old might have been hit with nervousness days before the fight. “The food poison is cap. I don’t think they got no food poisoning. Them n**** got cold feet,” Torae Stevenson added.

“Allah is good! Thank you to Your Excellency for taking care of my son. We are indebted to you and your staff. I am sorry we were not able to share the ring. Hopefully in the future. We do not believe you played a part in this. We still respect you and wish you well in your up-and-coming fight,” Floyd Schofield’s father stated on Instagram.
Well, it’s unknown as to how much time Floyd Schofield Jr would be out of action, as it will be interesting to see if his replacement can rattle Shakur Stevenson at the Kingdom Arena on February 22. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
