Gervonta Davis continues to amaze the world with his in-ring performances. Registering an incredible eleventh-round knockout of Mario Barrios, ‘Tank’ has etched his name alongside legends as a three-division world champion.

Most in the boxing world are impressed with his victory, some are not. The father-trainer of the unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez Jr, Teofimo Lopez Sr. falls in the latter category. Speaking to fighthype.com, Lopez Sr. went off on a suggestion of a possible fight with Gervonta Davis.

This guy is fighting for regular belts. We got the main belts,” he exclaimed. The idea of a bout between Davis and Lopez has been dangled in front of the boxing audience many times.

It would be interesting to see ‘Tank’ test his mettle with an opponent as highly touted as him. However, Lopez Sr. believes that the puzzle of Davis won’t be too hard for his son to solve.

“We’ll f*cking knock this dude in less than 4 rounds. That f*cking uppercut he throws, he’s never gonna catch my son with that sh**. Cause we got a style that we call the pyramid, where we can touch you and you can’t touch us,” he says.

The bludgeoning uppercuts of Davis have been his key to victory for the majority of his career. It is interesting to imagine how it will threaten Lopez, whose defensive game is amongst the foremost in the lightweight division.

“That’s the bottom line. He skipped two divisions just to fight Mario Barrios, who’s not as [good of a fighter]. We can say he’s a C-plus fighter at 140,” he said.

The fight is less likely to happen in the near future. Lopez Sr. asserted that the fight may not materialize as Davis may not accept a fight in the future.

“Tank is dead meat to us. Dead meat! And they know it. They’re never going to fight us. ‘Oh no, Tank needs another fight before he fights Lopez’. Get the f*ck out of here,” he says.
