In just hours, Ohara Davies and Ismael Barroso will be inside the ring, showering punches on each other. The two are ready to compete for the WBA interim world junior welterweight title. The 12-round match will serve as the precursor to the main event featuring former welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz, Jr. against Frederick Lawson. While the only reason Davies is entertaining this fight is because it has been ordered by the WBA, he is just as pumped to make way for his next by scoring another win in this one.
Barroso, a former two-time world championship contender, aims for a comeback following his defeat to Rolando Romero in May, where they competed for the WBA super lightweight title. Is Davies confident?

Davies has maintained an impressive winning streak. He has claimed victory in his last seven fights since his defeat to Jack Catterall in October 2018. While rumours are that Davies will fight Rolly Romero next, he is more focused on the fight right in front of him.

As the 12-round, 140-pound title fight approaches, 31-year-old Davies downplays any age disadvantage for Barroso. Why? Barroso was ahead on all three scorecards against Rolly Romero before their last bout was strangely stopped in the ninth round on May 13. Despite Davies being favored at 5-1 by most sportsbooks, he acknowledges Barroso’s maintained physical condition and recent impressive performance.
Davies is preparing for the co-feature on Saturday night before Vergil Ortiz Jr.’s main event. But before that, he highlights Barroso’s resilience and asserts that age won’t be a decisive factor. Recognizing Barroso’s fitness and skill, Davies anticipates a tough fight. He asserts that his rigorous preparation reflects the seriousness with which he approaches the upcoming challenge.
