Why did Tyson Fury say yes to fighting Francis Ngannou?

The ‘Gypsy King’ is not concerned about others’ opinions or issues regarding fighting Ngannou. Initially, he had uncertainties about his boxing future. After his last fight in December, he contemplated retiring, as there were no matches lined up. Ngannou’s offer changed things. “Take it up with Santa Claus because I don’t care.” said the heavyweight champion. “I’d have been out all year without a fight for no fault of my own. And the last, the last fight I had was in December, early December of last year, so I may as well have retired. It was Ngannou that’s kept me in boxing.”

“I thought, I wonder if there’s anybody my size and this fight’s come up and obviously it’s my size. So I’m happy, very happy and free. Francis Ngannou over doors have opened, so big shout out.” Fury had earned enough money before. But then the chance to fight Francis Ngannou in a crossover event emerged. He had always hoped for someone his size to have a similar fight. Especially after seeing others like Tommy Fury and Jake Paul seizing such opportunities. This is when the match with Ngannou came along.

Holyfield, however, does not believe in size being a deciding factor in a match. A boxer’s skills matter more. He emphasized that bigger fighters don’t necessarily fight better than smaller ones. It’s all about their technique. Hollyfield specifically mentioned Tyson Fury, noting his boxing abilities and power. He underscored Fury’s unique combination of size and skill, suggesting that this could make the fight different. Speed, additionally, would still be a crucial factor.
