Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone arguably made the most inspiring action movie on boxing. Its popularity fails to recede as a new lot of converts join every year, celebrating the victory of the ultimate underdog. Reportedly the only time the on-screen idol got hit for real was when he told his friend and colleague Dolph Lundgren to strike so that he could squeeze a shot as close to reality as possible. But, as it eventually turned out, it wasn’t the smartest of Stallone’s moves. Comparatively, his brother Frank Stallone, though a musician, fought for real.

At age forty-two, during an episode of “The Howard Stern Show” in 1992, he defeated Geraldo Rivera, a journalist and talk show host! Sylvester Stallone’s brother was born Francesco Stallone Jr. in Maryland on July 30, 1950. He gained mainstream popularity through his single “Far From Over.” It was part of the original soundtrack of the 1983 John Travolta release, “Staying Alive.” Frank Stallone’s number topped the charts apart from fetching a Golden Globe nomination. But unfortunately, the song that was among the top ten position songs on Billboard Hot 100 was to be his last smash hit.

Releasing studio albums right up to 2007, Frank Stallone dabbled as a boxing consultant for a major television network as well. In 2010, he had a hugely successful gig in Australia. Now seventy-two, precise details of his current activities are not readily available. However, he remains active on social media platforms. More than 200k follow his Instagram handle.

He comes from a family synonymous with strong boxing traditions, albeit the reel-life versions. Hence it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Frank Stallone took to his Instagram handle to showcase an inspirational though old clip of one of boxing’s most extraordinary, ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler. It seems that the handle @bxng_enthusiast initially posted the short video. Their message read, “They don’t make ’em like Marvelous Marvin Hagler anymore! (Part 2).

The video starts with Hagler on a jog. He could be heard saying, “Hey, who’s the champ? Hey, I am the champ…….

Then soon, another footage takes over. He seems to be addressing former Super Middleweight champion from Venezuela, Fulgencio Obelmehias. Presumably calling him Fully Obel, he says, “There’s only two things on my mind. This is for you, Fully Obel [presumably Fulgencio Obelmejias] – Destruction and Destroy; they told me that you were sick last time, I am gonna make sure that you’re sick this time….

The most formidable chin ever…

Born Marvin Nathaniel Hagler on May 23, 1954, in New Jersey, Hagler took to boxing at age fifteen. Under the mentorship of brothers Pat and Goody Petronelli, he started participating in amateur tournaments, winning a gold medal at the 1973 Golden Gloves.

Turning professional the same year, Hagler was on a twenty-six-fight win streak till 1976. Finally, on September 27, 1980, he won the WBA, WBC, and The Ring Middleweight titles. Adding the IBF belt to the list in 1983, he defended his titles a staggering twelve times till 1987, when Sugar Ray Leonard dethroned him.

No wonder fans, critics, and pundits rate him one of the pound-for-pound greatest middleweights of all time. Admired equitably for having one of the strongest chins, ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler never faced a knockdown on record. Instead, his knockout-to-win-rate of 78% remains the highest for the Middleweight division. After the loss against Leonard, Hagler left the American shores for Italy, where he dabbled in movies.
