When it comes to ‘Rocky’ and Sylvester Stallone, the discussions never cease. The iconic movie, its star cast, and its lead character have left an indelible mark on fans and followers across the globe, a legacy that endures to this day. Two weeks ago, on December 3, the franchise’s first installment celebrated its 48th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the city of Philadelphia hosted a five-day Rocky festival.

A key highlight of the event was the ‘Rocky Balboa’ statue, unveiled at the top of the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Of the three statues, Sylvester Stallone gifted one to the city, which was featured in the 1982 film ‘Rocky III’. Initially placed at the top of the stairs where Rocky triumphantly concludes his run to the inspiring tune of Bill Conti‘s ‘Gonna Fly Now‘, the statue was relocated to the base of the stairs in 2006. It has since become a symbol of hope and perseverance – an enduring tribute to the underdog’s struggle for recognition in a challenging world. The Hollywood icon observed it has become a matter of debate as well.

Thank you very much; you flatter me, guys,” wrote Sylvester Stallone on his Instagram story. It was linked to a post featuring a conversation between Sebastian Maniscalco and an associate. “What’s more iconic, the Rocky steps or the Rocky statue?” the stand-up comedian asked in his post.

The short footage featured Maniscalco speaking in front of the ‘Rocky’ statue. “We’re in Philadelphia; we’re here at the Rocky statue. Almost shed a tear. The Rocky statue is a rite of passage for all Italians,” he remarked, as laughter echoed in the background.

Maniscalco passionately advocated for the statue’s significance, insisting it was a must-visit landmark for anyone in Philadelphia. However, his associate, argued that the steps were more iconic because of their central role in the film. “So I’m saving it for the steps, because that was in the movie; this is a little…,” they commented.

Sebastian Maniscalco contested that the statue also played a role in the movie. But the person countered, “It couldn’t have been in the movie because he wasn’t famous yet.” Momentarily perplexed the stand-up comedian, looked at a nearby bystander and sought help: “Would you like to explain to Pete where the statue was in the movie?

Sebastian Maniscalco also recounted a lighter moment involving Stallone’s playful spirit. Last year, during a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican, the actor and the pontiff exchanged mock punches. The interaction showcased the Hollywood icon’s enduring charm and humor.
